My ATB Relay boast
My ATB Relay boast
In the fall one of the guys from our bootcamp challenged the girls to a three person relay at the ATB. Not one to back down the challenge was on.
The original threesome of boys I thought were good but definitely beatable. Then one of their guys backed out. My group of ladies had recently started running with our girl friends husband so we made a deal that R would replace their missing guy. With the addition of R to their team I knew things would be interesting.
Two of the guys were about 58-60 min 10k'ers. And R we figured could be in the 55min 10k.
For the girls myself and K are 60min 10k'ers. And D is more a 50-55min 10k.
At the 10k relay point, R was only 30 seconds or so ahead of K. At the 19.5k point the boys had spread their lead to about 3:30 min (myleg ). The final leg was between D and the other 60min guy.
D caught him at the HILL and that was game over.

When your legs get tired, run with your heart.
Overcome the notion that you must be regular. It robs you of your chance to be extraordinary.

We were! The guy that ran the second leg with me and I got back there only about 5 mins before D came across the finish line. We waited and watched till the guys finished, sat around till about the 3:30 mark on the clock and then got changed and left. We were quite focused on the finish
It was one heck of a race.

Were you there before the race? I was also there from 2:55 until about 3:40 on the clock, but I was over in section 120 for a lot of that time (other than going over to talk to Mark and James).

Re: My ATB Relay boast
We were not there before the race. Since there was so many of us we decided to drive to the relay points. We essentially kicked our first leg runners out at Copps and headed to the relay points. Now that was an adventure all unto itself. We managed to get back to the 10k point before the race started but it was close. They shut the road down shortly after we got there.
