Lisa P's Sporting Life 10K

Postby purdy65 » Sun May 13, 2012 10:29 am

This will be a fairly short report, but I really wanted to have a record of this race.

I woke up this morning not really in the mood to run fast. I was having trouble getting my mental on, but I went through my pre-race routine, then off I went to meet with some of the RR gang that were running this race.

The weather was overcast with just a light drizzle. VERY nice conditions. Plus there was a but of a tailwind! OK, now I was starting to feel more into it.

To be honest, I was a bit afraid of the organization of this race, being nearly double in size over last year, and having been taken over by new organizers.

I have to say very simply - it was better than last year. There was still lots of room at the start, the corals were well set up, and there was lots of line ups at the port-o-potties, but nothing like I thought they would be.

I found my place at the back of the first coral Perfect! I had lots of space! There was lots of people who should have not been in that coral, but this always seems to happen.

Whew! Feel the downhill, feel the tailwind - awesome.

I finished the first 5K in 24:02 (OK only complaint - where were the KM markers? First one I saw was 5K, then 7K and 9K. Maybe I missed some) Luckily I know the course, and my garmin ended up being quite accurate.

I really felt like I was slowing (and I was a bit), but I managed to keep a good pace right to the end finishing the second 5K in 24:27.

The finish area was awesome! Medals efficiently handed out, lots of water. They were giving out a chocolate recovery drink that was quite good. Bananas, bagels. In a separate section they were giving out free greek yogurt and McDonalds coffee, but the line was too long,so I skipped it.

I only speak from my experience, but congratulations to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and runners for a great event for a GREAT cause. They raised so much more money for Camp Oochegeus this year - almost $2million dollars - a significant part of the camps budget.

WELL DONE!

Great run Lisa. Glad to hear it went so well for you and that the race was well organized. I was concerned about that part even though I didn't get to run this in the end.

Good job! :)
"It's now very common to hear people say 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fcuking what."

Great job Lisa! You paced it really well eh?! Glad you had such a good day.

Congrats Lisa. A nice 10K result given that you weren't in the mood to run fast that day! :)
