This one was not a goal race but wanted to support the local hospital so signed up for the 5K during my current marathon taper.
This was the site of my first race in 2008, when I ran a 29:56. I ran it again in 2009, in 22:41. It is no longer a road race, rather it is a (mostly) trail race.
A tough course - you really need to boogie out of the gate as it is 300K of road to the trailhead and I wanted to get ahead of the kids who would sprint for 500 metres and stop dead on the narrow trails, as most have seen at community 5K events everywhere. So a quick first K:
4:22.4
This pic is from 50 metres in - the three runners right in front of baldie in the red shirt (me) I would let go early on the trails and never catch - orange cap dude was the winner. The two kids ahead in the picture and the dozen or more kids in front of them became trail obstacles as when they ran out of gas, they slowed in a big hurry:
Then two uphill kilometres that were real tough. I was waiting to be passed as I take uphills cautiously to allow myself to pound the downhills. But I was not being passed, I was slowly reeling in some of the 20-25 runners who hit the trails ahead of me:
4:48, 5:09
Then it was downhill along golf course paths, I thought I was going to have a cardiac episode on the short uphill to the finish:
4:12, 4:13.5
Text book bad form from the last K:
22:44.9 Chip Time
22:46.0 Gun Time, 2/20 AG, 9/234 Overall

I am fortunate to have Running Free as a sponsor. I like to keep silly stats and maps of my Daily Neighbourhood Tours, Races and Marathons run in a Silly Yellow Shirt.

Congrats, that's a great time! Very very hilly course...
Too bad we didn't get to meet...
It's a great event, would definitely recommend to anyone and will do it again if I can.

Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.
