Red Deer Marathon and those darn hills!

Postby barebuns1 » Wed May 22, 2013 9:15 pm

I have not Red Deer Marathon or its half in a few years. I decided it is pretty close to Medicine Hat and they do have good food. The expo was nothing to brag about. I think they only had 3 or 4 vendors there. The weather was ideal for marathon running, it was cool at the start. But it did warm up and by 1130 a.m. it was starting to get hot out on the course.
Overall my run went very well. I was hoping to get under 4 hours but I am happy with my time of 4.09:23. I think I have to practise pacing. My garmin was showing 4.45 per km to 7 minutes a km. I did forget about the 2 hills on this course. The last hill is around the 41 km mark, it is quite nasty at that stage of the game. It was nice hearing size5 yell my name, I think I was in a trance :). I was under 2 hours for the 1st half and then I think my wheels fell off. I don't think I hit any wall physically but mentally I was finished at the half. This course could be pretty fast with proper training that I was sorely lacking. :) I will probably come back and run it next year.
Next up Calgary Marathon this weekend, maybe!! :)

Good run, Ken!! Note - Re: Garmin: I use the AVERAGE PACE data and not the instant pace on my Garmin. This gives me a better handle on my pace for the entire run.

Great run, I'd love to visit that area, and a race would be fantastic...and don't use the Garmin to understand your max and min pace...the Garmin has me at one point going pretty quick. I just looked and it was 296,784km/h during one of my neighborhood runs...Usain Bolt take that.

Ha! Will have to get Turd to post the North Glenmore Park naked picture again.

Yes I am still running, my knees have not been bothering me too much lately. A week ago I did the Great Wall Marathon in Beijing and then last weekend did the Calgary Half Marathon, so far everything is working fine. I keep imaging that the Kirkland Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM pills I take are magically repairing my knees.
