Lisa P earns her bunny ears!

Postby purdy65 » Sun May 26, 2013 6:12 pm

Wow! What a great weekend!

Who knew that being a pace bunny would make you feel like a rock star!

I really wanted to do something g different with my running, and this was suggested as an option. Luckily I have an in with our resident bunny master, canalrunner, and he set me up as a 2:15 run walk pacer! I practiced this pace during many of my training runs. Still I was nervous, as I had not done this before!

We arrived in Ottawa on Friday afternoon. After a stroll to parliament hill, we decided to check out the expo since we were close. Glad we did, because it was relatively quiet at at point. Shirt and bib acquired, we headed to the Running Room area to pick up my bunny accessories. John Stanton himself set me up! We had a great chat, and he gave me a few tips. I was completely unprepared for the reaction when I walked around with my bunny ears and sign. Racer questions and introductions! Cool!

Friday evening was a nice dinner, and a relaxing evening.

Saturday we headed over to the Friendship run and again there were introductions and questions! It was actually a nice event! We then headed back to the expo for a bit and see a bit more of what we missed on Friday. The rest of the day was a nap, swim in the hotel pool, and my traditional pre race Subway subs for dinner.

Race day!

So nervous! Coffee, oatmeal, and off we go! I was so happy to run into Kiza and Denise! Kiza spent a bit of time during the race with me! Then I ran into MikeM and had a bit of a chat. The nerves had not settled at all! Then I struggled to get to my corral, and my Garmin was not finding a signal. This was doing me in! Finally, I got everything together, and the race began.

All I can say is that I felt fantastic the whole way and managed to lock right into the pace. I had some wonderful racers who stuck with me the whole way, and many others who where following from afar, or for part of the race.

I was constantly getting big cheers from the great crowd. I really felt like a rock star. :D

As I neared the finish, most of my group rushed off to the finish. Many PBS were had! :D

I spent my time in the finish chute getting thanks and compliments. I've never felt so fulfilled and satisfied after a race!

Oh yeah. finish time was 2:14:48. :D

This was all topped off with great company at the meet and greet afterwards.

Thanks Ottawa! Thanks canalrunner! It was an honour

Nice bunny debut. I would claim that helping another runner to a PB is often more satisfying than setting a PB yourself, especially because you aren't seeing double and dry heaving at the finish line.

Isn't being a bunny just the best!

When was the last time someone ask if they could get a picture with you?

You did great.
