This was my 5th running of the Moon in June since returning to running 2006. The weather was perfect. The organization and atmosphere were great. 752 people ran in the 5K race with an additional 59 doing the 5K walk and 274 in the 10K run. The charge down Brant Street and along Lakeshore was a bit tense with slower and faster runners, and walkers, all vying for space but it all settled down by the time we reached Maple Avenue. From then on I was living in my own world of suffering.
My first kilometre had been too fast, as usual, at 4:35, but not too bad. The drag up Maple and through the subdivisions is slightly uphill and gradually my times slowed, as fatigue set in. I had managed to mess up my watch somehow so I couldn’t track my time anymore. After the 3rd kilometre, the really hard effort set in and all I wanted to do was hold it together till the finish, without blowing up. The last kilometre down Brant Street was a slog as usual. I didn’t dare increase my effort but I didn’t want to slow down either. I managed to speed up a bit near the finish. I crossed the line and kept walking trying not to barf until things settled down. Ah … the 5K … what a treat!
My gun time was 24:18. My chip time was 24:11. I was a bit disappointed as my time was not the equal of my previous results for this event but good enough for a 1st of 6 in my AG SM65-69.
Thanks for reading.

I have 10 years to drop my 5K time down to yours, before I join the M65-69 AC... I understand being disappointed in a slower time, but you rocked the AC!
Well done, keep digging!
Who was it that said: "You don't stop running because you get old, you get old because you stop running". I plan to run until I'm 55! (Yesterday)
