This was the fourth year in a row that I have run in this local classic. It was “Robbie Burns weather,” sunny and cold. At race time, the temperature was minus 9 degrees with a wind chill of minus 18 degrees. I wore nylon wind pants over my tights again this year. It was an excellent idea!
As usual, a high quality field from all over Ontario showed up. So I had no dreams of an AG placement. My training this year had gone well and my goal was to run a smarter race tactically, as I have a tendency to go out much too hard and suffer the consequences later. My racing went pretty well and I was able to maintain my heart rate and pace goals. I finished in a chip time of 42:22 which was good enough for 11th out of 23 in the 65-69 AG.
It was kind of an emotional race for our community as Gord Dickson had died this past week. In fact, his funeral was scheduled for that afternoon. His son Kevin acted as official starter. That was kind of tough and there were other moments during the awards ceremony when people struggled to hold it together.
This event is extremely well organized and I highly recommend it to any of you, who, like me, need a reason to keep training through the winter.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks guys.
Looks like I've moved up one place. I'm now listed as 10th of 22.
I'll say. The first 5 guys ran well under 5 min/k.

I think it was the ONtario Master's Championships so you can always expect a fast field of masters runners so nicely done! That's an impressive placement in that crowd!
