why not?.......Ron's ATB
Ate lots of shushi and a seafood hotpot with my brother on Saturday night at the Akita japanese restaurant. No problem with that. Try it if you like seafood; you can't get that stuff just anywhere.
Slept poorly. My brother and his wife still smoke. Every time the furnace came on it was blowing cigarette smoke thru the vent at me. Yuk yuk.
Came to the colisseum in bad humour, and feeling 'what am I doing here'. That happens often enough the morning of a race, so I just try to wait it out.
Met Jane from Trenton at the start line, with her daughter Heather and a few of her trail running friends. That was nice. We started slowly together.
Left Jane behind at someone's potty break. Continued on with Deirdre, a RM lurker. (Deirdre, come out! Tell us how it went.). She fell back at the start of the beach strip.
I had this idea from someone that the middle third is where you really make your race, so I started running it when Deirdre fell back. Settled into a pattern of a 45 sec walk every two klicks, to take a drink, and swing my arms and loosen up arms neck and shoulders a bit. That really helps me keep my whole body loose. A good compromise between trying to run right thru, and losing more time walking than necessary. Spoke to Lisa, (RunDiva), who didn't have an orange shirt, but did have a sign on her back, around the lift bridge.
Ran the hills this year, unlike last year, except half of the steep one.
Felt good all the rest of the way. Coming into the colisseum, I was starting to pass a young woman who was obviously really beat and almost walking, so I piped up, 'C'mon, this is a race you know. Don't let an old man beat you!'. She took one look at me and took right off and started sprinting it in. I didn't beat her; didn't have a chance.
3:21, 8 minutes better than last year, and I felt a whole lot better. Amazing reverse splits: 1:13, then 1:06, then 1:02 for the last 10km. Look out Toronto Ultra.

Sorry! I had to go wipe the water from my keyboards! *which, by the way, spurted through my nose!*
Ronperth - a great report! Hope to be able to meet you soon!

Congratulations Ron! Wow, I agree with Dave- that is a really fast 10K for the last portion of the race. Good job!

Wow, great race, Ron! Sorry we couldn't stick with you, but you know how it is when nature calls! It was good to see you at the start line and get to run with you awhile anyhow. And discuss trail runs and fat ass runs. Hopefully our paths will cross at one of them, and at Wolfe Island for sure (I believe you are on the YES list, aren't you?)

GREAT run, Great sPlits!! You paced that really really well!!!
RunDiva asked me after who Ron from Perth was....she said you came up to her and said "Hi Runningmania! I'm Ron! Ron from Perth!" She was a bit confused, especially when my response was "why, that would be ronperth"!
Hope we meet next time!
