Halloumi cheese

Postby SuperboB » Mon Mar 31, 2008 10:46 pm

Where can I find some in the Ottawa or Vancouver region? It's a firm cheese that can be seared or grilled without melting. We've found some great cheese kebab recipes that we'd like to try as soon as the snow melts.

Looky here: http://www.the-picnic-site.com/halloumi.html

Thanks!

I'm not sure if it is the same kind, but for some reason I think that PC sells a cheese for grilling.

It was in the Insider's Report last summer, but I have not seen it recently.

There is always the House of Cheese in the Market too, but if you can't find it I will ask my Lebanese friend if she knows a grocery that carries it.

I never knew what this was called! I eat cheese on the BBQ all the time in Brazil, and have tried a whole bunch of cheeses here with very messy results. I would LOVE to find some i could grill here.

Let me know if you have luck finding it!

You can find it _for sure_ at Mideast Foods on St. Laurent S. in Ottawa (and I have also bought the PC stuff at the Great Canadian Superstore in Westboro).

Cheers,

Thanks, everyone! We'll be checking out Superstore and MidEast foods soon. Interestingly, the article lists halloumi cheese as a product of Cypress but I'm sure there are many close variations from other countries.

Mmmm cheeeseeee....
