I thought I would cut them into bars and wrap them in wax paper, then put them in a container in the fridge.

I usually shape mine into balls and then store in fridge in a tupperware

Ditto, I use a semi-spherical tablespoon then roll them. We call them Lara Balls.

I have some in the fridge that are about 10 days old - they still seem good. I've never had them longer - they get eaten!

When I was processing my apricots for my granola I thought they might be a good base. (I think La mentioned it upthread). You may have to add a bit of water just to get them mushy enough to stick.
I'm going to try craisins and apricots combined for the base, with almonds next time.
You could do it first.

P.s. I hate figs more than I hate dates

Then I'm thinking lara bars arent for you. Try the chocolate brownie ones though you can't tell it's dates.

well I was hoping for recipes that weren't necessarily mimicking Lara bars completely with the figs and dates

Those are called granola bars.

seriously? granola bars use oats and grains and are more like cookies.
that's not what I meant.
i have seen some recipes that use other dried fruits as the base.
