Thanks for posting this. I'll give it a try, even though the idea of cold oatmeal seems a bit strange...

huh. I could probably do that. I loooooove oatmeal. But I'd probably nuke it a bit so it was warm. :shifty:

i usually heat it a bit. just long enough to take the edge off (but not super long because of the yogurt).

I like it cold, and the cocoa ones are the best (cocoa and strawberry is my fav combo). My only caution is that if you are using frozen fruit then reduce the milk, or it is too liquidy. YUM.

Has anyone ever tried using dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, etc.)? And, if you do the banana version, do the bananas turn all brown and mushy?

I was just going to share these! I've made a few of them, and they're much yummier than I expected. My picky children don't like them, but they're a perfect breakfast for myself & my husband. And I'm earning some major wife brownie points for having a breakfast ready that he can just take to work and eat at his leisure.

Avis, I find that the bananas soften a bit, but don't turn the gross brown colour, presumably because they're not exposed to air after they're mixed in. I'm really touchy about banana texture, and I actually really enjoy them! I'm eating the PB banana one right now. :)

I tried one of these a few weeks ago and loved it. Such a nice easy breakfast! I did an apple cinnamon one and want to try a banana cocoa flavour. Yum!

After reading this thread I had to make this for breakfast - Love this way of eating oatmeal! So Yummy and it fills me up a lot more than just plain oatmeal too.

If anyone likes the Bichermeusli that they serve at the Marche (formerly Movenpick) in Toronto, I found the recipe here: http://www.donogh.com/cooking/brunch/bircher.shtml
It's definitely not a low-cal recipe, though!

I'd probably replace the 18% and whipping cream with Greek yogurt (and omit the lemon juice since I'm using yogurt).

I'm addicted to this at present.... I make mine a little differently. I always add a scoop of protein powder to the mix because it makes the meal last and you can't taste it!

I need to try this. So far I've just made it according to the recipes, but I think a protein boost would be a good thing!

It's quite good. I find carbs alone don't last for me. In the morning I seem to need significant protein, more than is in Greek yogurt.

Stupid question, maybe: where do you guys buy old fashioned rolled oats or does it have another name? My Loblaws doesn't have that kind of oats.

I got mine at Superstore, they're Robin Hood brand. I don't have the bag anymore but I think it might call them "traditional oats". Look for the bag that's not quick or instant. Although I've heard you can make it with quick oats too, and it works just fine.

Anything that doesn't say quick or instant is fine.
