Ottawa Maniacs: Come Jog the Bog

Postby Ironboy » Sun May 09, 2010 8:58 pm

...or any maniacs who can be in Ottawa on June 26th.

The Mer Bleue Bog is a conservation area in Orleans (east end Ottawa) with beautiful scene paths and boardwalks.

But you won't be seeing much of it, because you'll be running as fast as you can!

Jog the Bog.

Trail run for fun. But fastest runner still wins!

6km out and back on mostly grassy track with some hills, roots, stumps and mud thrown in for good measure.

The trail is open to the public, so keep in mind hikers have the right of way.

The Woodbine twister put on by Dgrant and Quickchick was such a great time, I said then and there that I had to do something similar here in Ottawa.

So here it is: Jog the Bog. Details to come. Volunteers welcome (no really, I'll need some volunteers).

As I said on the FB page, I am there (as long as it doesn't interfere with my work schedule, which isn't posted yet for June). I'll volunteer too, need a course sweeper (since I'm slow anyways)?

Long live the Bog People!

We are running the Perth Kilt Race that day, BUT the Kilt race is in the Evening (6:00pm). What time is the Bog Jog? I love that trail, run it many times at lunch, has a little bit of everything.

You know, I picked Saturday because I figured if there was a race that weekend, they normally hold them on the Sunday.

Go figure the Kilt run would be thumb their noses to convention. :(

Oh well. I hope to make this an annual event, so we'll be sure to have a blast and make you all so jealous that you'll sign up for next year right away!

;)

The Bog Jog is at 9:30 AM - TONS of time to come hang out (maybe run a bit!).....(or take photos?!) and still make it to Perth!

We will be there for sure. Lots and Lots of time. Plus, one is trail and one is road, and neither are really that serious. (well till some says "GO!"). Count the Striders in. Is puppy allowed to run?

There are signs up at Mer Bleue that say "no dogs allowed" - I think it's because it's a conservation area. :(

We have seen dogs there though.

your choice.

We'll leave him at home, much easier.

J, when you ran the course on the weekend was the trail all wet and boggy at the turnaround? Last spring it took a while for that area to dry up.

I have a video of me running the way back, but it's huge and very shakey.

The turn around is just before the worst of the waterworks. There are a couple of spots between 1km and 2km with big puddles, but I expect they'll better by race day (unless it rains leading up to the 26th). And there are couple of the the grassy spots that are muddy, but not too bad.

The vast majority is hard grassy turf or packed dirt, a few spots with some roots an the 8 short boardwalks.

I didn't realize the Kilt run was in the evening. Put us down for maybe (we'll volunteer if we come). It depends on what time we head out to my parents.

Sounds like fun James!!

You'd have to ask Joe, but I'm sure for a burger he could be convinced.

I'd love to have a BBQ or something after (it'll be lunch time after all) but I have to work out the logistics of getting a grill or BBQ to the site and then get some food!
