AirForceRunner races.....AGAIN!?!

Postby AirForceRunner » Tue Jun 01, 2010 7:57 pm

Despite nearly offing myself due to bad dehydration at the Sulphur Springs 25 km trail race on Saturday, the race junkie in me started rifling through the usual websites looking for the next race. Low and behold, a Tuesday night race in Barrie. :D It was a strange distance (7 km), but I love night races, and with the promise of at least 40 runners and official timing, I decided to pop down and sign up last minute (secretly hoping for a weaker field to grab that elusive first win).
The race started with a grand total of 15 people  . Oh well....just run, dummy. Quit worrying about numbers.
Right of the start, 3 people made it know they would carry this race...myself, beard dude and short gal. But little did we know short gal would tear it up. The first km goes by in 3:59, and we all settle into our paces. Or at least me and beard dude do. Short gal just leaves us behind.
Right around 3 km, I realize that running so soon after a tough hilly race was silly, as I started getting jelly legs. The water station dropped me to a walk, and beard dude carried on without me. On the return trip, water station was a walk station again, and I settled into a comfortable pace that would carry me to the finish. Then out of nowhere, tall white-shirt dude blows past me. WTF!?! I actually say 'where the hell did you come from?', which garners a laugh.
Dragged my wobbly butt across the finish line in 30:42, 4:23/km pace, good for 4th overall. Short gal won the race. I went to shake her hand, and that's when I saw the IM tattoo on her calf...NICE!!!
I'm happy with the pace given how soon after a tough race I did it. Good confidence boost, despite the walk breaks.

That's just crazy. I take it you're feeling better? Was there a trophy?

This blackbird's mute gonna sing again

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Crazy...yes.
Trophy...dunno, I bailed after the race in hopes of getting back in time for the kids bedtime stories.

Way to go AFR, seems your recovery is going well!

Seems like this is going to be a busy week for Sulphur Springs 25k racers :?:

...secretly hoping for a weaker field to grab that elusive first win...
I won second place in a marathon last year with a 3:57, but since I know that I only got second because faster gals weren't, it doesn't mean anything. You'll be proud of your first win if you run a great race also. Now, recover, get better and the cream a worthy opponent.
