dgrant's chilly 1/2 report
dgrant's chilly 1/2 report
Oh, well... not my day.
I'll keep it short, because I'd rather the spotlight be on tritorun, wilsonwales, robbie-t, windhater, doonst, baldguy, geck, moeman, arrow, jenny c, and devalera (and anyone else who had a happier race than me).
My legs felt good and I wasn't affected at all (I don't think) by my recent illness. I just had a lot of stomach discomfort the whole race and couldn't get my head in the game. Before I knew it I was at 20K, and I never really felt like had started racing. If it weren't for the salt deposits all over my face, I wouldn't even think I had run. Anyway, my final time was 1:46:XX.
I'm not really bummed about it, but it does feel like a lost opportunity. I can be faster...
Big thanks to Kristi, Lesley, and Denis for cheering us on out there.

Dave, for your first race of 2006 I'd say that's pretty darn good! I'm super proud of you. I know you weren't 100%, and I know that I kept you up half the night because I was up every half hour, so for you to be within 3 minutes of your PB under those conditions... a great season is ahead I think. I wish I could've been there.

Dave - you did look strong nearing the finish, though! Salt deposits or not!
It was great to see so many RM shirts out on the course!! I wasn't sure at the time who it was I saw cross at 1:22, but I think Robbie-T said that it was Paul (tritorun?). Wow! That was smoking fast!

A 1:46:xx an off day, dave ??? and, not at 100% with a week of stomach ailments, etc. ??? You showed true grit, my friend, and I am looking forward to reading your racing exploits for 2006 ....

Wow, Dave, that is awesome! I wish I could finish in 1:46 and feel like I hadn't started racing! Way to go.
And congratulations on being the first person to post a race report! I have been looking for them all afternoon!
Did anyone get photos?
Jane

I'd like to echo the comments above... 1:46 is nothing to sneeze at! I think the first race of the season is just a warmup anyway. You'll be busting your PB in no time. :)

sorry you felt your head was not with it - is this what is called a character run?
That Dave, he is quite a character.
I had a good day, 1:49:06 gun, 1:47:20 chip time. PB by 6 minutes and 2 seconds!! I'll probably never say that again. It was really to see everybody out.
next up:
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Geesh Dave 1:46:xx ????? What were you thinkin man??
Seriously I realize it's all relative & I empathize with not feeling like you ran up to your expectations -
BUT
All things considered that's a heck of a race - chalk it up to just the first of the season. Just makes you hungrier for the next one doesn't it??
Great run !!!

Dave, I am sure that by tomorrow you will be quite pleased with your time. Being only 3 min. slower than your PB after being sick most of the week, means that a lot of good things are lining for you this summer.
I had the same feeling after the NCM half last year when I missed a PB by 15 sec. I was really disappointed when I first read the official results. However, by the evening, I realized that considering that coming so closed to a PB with less than 3 months of training after my stress fracture and surgery was indeed pretty good.
Doonst: congrats for your PB.

I run because it's fun.
