Running/Training Goals 2011

Postby mcshame » Sat Dec 18, 2010 8:06 am

It's Performance Evaluation time for 2010 and with that comes 2011 Running/Training Goals. This is for running goals, unlike the NRR thread that's for everything in life.

I still need to think I bit prior to writing mine, but post away!

My goal is to improve on the 3:22 ran at PEC this year and qualify for Boston by running a 3:15 in 2011. I will be doing the Ottawa Marathon and will look at doing a fall marathon again if that does not go as planned.
[b]2016 Races:[b]

January - Richmond Road Races 10 km 41:06
March - St Patrick's Day 10 km 41:31
April - Minto Run for Reach half-marathon 1:28:56
May - Sporting Life 10 km - 41:10
May - Ottawa Marathon - 3:26:37
September - Army Run

Great idea McShame!

I plan to run 3:20 or faster at Boston in April (this will mean I need to stay injury-free through the training cycle).
I will start training for triathlons / duathlons after Boston.
I also want to do better at working on my core, but I find it boring so I generally avoid it. Hopefully better this time around!

1. Get back to running regularly.
2. Get into something resembling decent shape.
3. Lose the 3-year-old attached to my mid-section. (Thanks to BaldGuy for that description.)

1) Participate in some of the 5 Peaks Trail running series. Did my first trail race in November (Fat Ass) and loved it
2) Qualify for Boston...Missed it by less than 4 minutes 3 times this year (the closest was off by 1:02). Going to try and pace to 10 minutes below my qualifying time this year (which would be 3:50). This would hopefully cover me off if they change qualifying times as well.

Running/Training Goals 2011

Postby Jwolf » Sat Dec 18, 2010 7:15 pm

2010 turned out to be a great year for me. I trained through the whole year with no major injury down-time. I progressed in speed to surpass my pre-injury fitness.

I did not achieve my goal of a sub-4:00 marathon (hit the wall again) so that remains as a goal for this year. But first I will be training for speed improvement, which ideally will carry over to improved marathon fitness.

I am participating in the 5K/10K/21.1K challenge with ambitious times of 21/45/1:45 that I hope to reach with gradual improvement over the year. I plan to do at least one 5K race and a couple 10K and halfs in the first six months the year. I will run at least one marathon on November 6, and possibly another in May.

I achieved most my goals in 2010 (first half marathon, first marathon and just increasing my mileage in general). The only part of the plan that fell through did for a great reason - with the surprise arrival of the munchkin, I didn't want to devote the time to train for a fall marathon as originally planned.

For 2011:

1) increase endurance, which should lead to,
2) sub-4hr marathon
3) set 5k, 10k, HM, and marathon PBs (the HM might be the toughest since that was my most recent one and probably the best gauge of my fitness right now)

I didn't really have any goals going into 2010 other then finish a local 10 miler without embarrassing myself, and hopefully shed a few pounds in the process. I think what happened in 2010 is that I became a runner. I did the 10 miler and an 8k, 20k and half-marathon and logged over 1000 km.

Some specific goals I have for 2011:

1. Run a race with my wife (which should get done before 2011 as we are both doing the resolution run on Dec 31st).
2. Sub 2 hour Cape to Cabot 20k.
3. Finish my first marathon.

2013:
April: Mundy Pond 5k 22:39 (new PB)
May: New job on a new continent so who knows.
June: Mizuno 10 Miler Rio de Janeiro 1:23:36.
July: Rio de Janeiro Marathon 1:48:30 (new PB).

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results of my 2010 goals. I did two 5ks and 2 10ks, and I'm prepping for a half.
Sure, I didn't do a half in 2010, but I learned a lot more about how to avoid injury.
Best of all, I'm finding that my mood is a lot better when I run regularly, and I feel better at 40 than I did at 30 -- I'll take it!

2011 goals:
To run a half marathon, preferably in 2:00
To run several 10ks, improving my time to between 52:00-55:00
To train for a marathon, but stay injury-free
To support my kids in their running/cycling goals

Portland Half Oct 7 - 1:59:15

I don't know if all of these goals are realistic, but here goes:

* Qualify for Boston (hey I don't know yet what the new standards will be!)
* Improve my 10K time - I have only run an 10K once (this year) and the result was pretty lame: 60 minutes. I would like to bring it down to 55 min by the end of 2011
* run a sub 2:00:00 half marathon in the fall

I had a great time in 2010 and set lots of PB's since it was my first full season of running and tri's. For 2011, here are some of my goals...at least for now:

1) Stay healthy and happy.
2) Break a 2 hour 1/2M, hopefully in Vancouver on May 1st. Ran a 2:05 and change in Toronto a few months ago but could have run a bit faster. :) I'm hoping that this goal is achievable.
3) Oodles of triathlon goals but the ultimate is to survive my half ironman in August at Timberman and still be smiling afterward.

2014:
Mar - Around the Bay 30 km - Done
May - Sulphur Spring 100 miler - DNS
Sept - Army HM
Sept/Oct - 50 miler

I'm sure you can do it Sylvie! If you can't, no one can. :)

My goals for 2011:

-the whole year INJURY FREE, and train as much as I can without burning out mentally
-break a 2:00 half marathon (I see there are a few of us with that goal  )
-complete my first full marathon, hopefully sub 4:30
-drop 10 pounds - I don't need to for health reasons, but it would be nice to get to optimum speed
-be in a good place to start thinking Goofy training, if not racing, in 2012
Sandra...Air Force wife & Professional Kid Wrangler...I knit to stay sane, I run to eat!
2012 - year of perseverance, endurance, survival, and earning blackmail material for life. :D

After dealing with two significant injuries this year my main goal for 2011 is to run injury free.

If I'm successful with that I'd like to try and repeat a sub 4:00 marathon and get those PBs done in a couple other distances that didn't happen this year.
On the books for 2017:

Boston Marathon- April 17th what a day- DREAM COME TRUE
Run for Water 10K- May 28th
Scotia Half - June 25th
Trail River Run half marathon- Sept. 30- CANCELLED

1) Train for and run the NYC Marathon in November.
2) Log more mileage (and log it sooner) than I did in preparation for my last marathon in 2009.
3) Run a few more trail races.
4) Do at least one tri.

Well, easy does it for me:

* Running about 3,300-3,500km this year, no more.

* Running 3-5 marathons (I am thinking of Winterman, Boston replacement marathon, Ottawa or Stockholm, early fall marathon, and of course NYC)
Faster, stronger, meaner....Arrgh, matey!

Ok, 2011 goals. 2010 will likely go down as my best running year so 2011 was tough to get my head around.

I plan on running many of the Circuit Endurance 5k/10k races in Montreal, at least 8 of them. So this year, unlike 2010, I will NOT PB every race and need to handle that well.

- Sub 40 min 10k race
- Sub 20 min 5k race
- Sub 90 minute Half Marathon
- Sub 3:15 marathon in Vancouver
- Silver medal at ATB
- Register for Boston 2012 and training for it to Race it

I would still like to hit 2000 miles in 2011 even though I'm running only 1 marathon in the Spring and training for Boston in the Winter. That should be tough.

I would also like to get my weight from 140 to 130-135 lbs for a good part of my 2011

My running goals are:

1. first marathon in May
2. 5/10/21.1 speed challenge for the rest of the year
3. hit those goals by running often (4-5 days per week) and smarter (weekly tempo runs no matter how lazy I feel)

That's enough for one year, I think.

1. Be more consistent with my training.
2. Sub 2h 1/2 for Ottawa Army Run.

1. Atempt to break 2 hour half-marathon
2. Try to lose 5 - 10 lbs (major determining factor in achieving goal 1).
3. Run up a mountain in Switzerland (gulp ...)

3 km goal sounds tougher. I once did a 10:51 3 km when I was 17 and at the time I think my 5 km times were around 18:45 which is your first goal.

..................................................................................

As for my goals for 2011, uh I dunno. I wanna break 40 minutes for 10 km, but wanting to and expecting to are two different things.
2013 GOALS:

- Compete in the "Early Bird Sprint Triathlon" in May
- Run a 5km pb during the "Bushtukah Canada Day Road Race"
- Complete an Olympic distance triathlon
- Cycle > 33 km / hr during the cycle portion of a Sprint Triathlon.
- Stay healthy and happy

Races

April 28th: Manotick 10km (40:16)
May 18th: Ottawa Early Bird Sprint Triathlon (DNF)
June 8th: Riverkeeper SuperSprint (2nd overall)
July 1st: Bushtukah Canada Day 5km (18:37)
