Blasting the past, Doonst back at 5 Peaks Albion Hills
Almost didn't file a report until I saw that there was a picture. First 5 Peaks race of the year, the 12 k enduro distance. An absolutely beautiful day after a week of way too interesting weather. Lots of familiar faces there including an idiot reunion. Sure, BJH was the one on the podium this time, and dgrant was there to direct not run, but we were all together again.
My training has been a little lacking this spring, so I was a little concerned about my first real race. I did trot around the bay in Hamilton, but here I was going for it, whatever that might be. It went well, didn't hurt a bit. I pushed medium hard, a little tenuous but still racing. Sandra passed me just before the end of the first loop, she is getting fast (podium fast). First loop took 35 minutes, I then hoped to do the second in under 37. My knee got a bit sore with around 3 K to go, but that's nothing new. I finished in 1:11:59, good for around the middle of my age group. It could have been worse. The main thing, I was back at it, dressed in bright colours with my knee brace on on a sunny day with water in little cups and friends to talk to about races past and upcoming. Our dog Tuzo was there and was a big hit as always. That means my SO was there; seven of her students were there running and hogging the podium. 53 pictures she took, just one was of me!
Next up Mississausage half and Sulphurous Springs 25.

Great photo - congrats!
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA
