Cruise 2 Run -- anyone know anything about it?

Postby DLS » Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:14 am

I was looking at Cruise 2 Run, and wondering if anyone has done it, or knows anything about it? Thoughts? What's it like if you have kids with you? What's the food like?

Thanks,

Deanna

Haven't done the Cruise 2 Run ... but, the Food on Princess, is awesome ...

They offer both standard and anytime dining room options, and buffet as well as other alternatives throughout the day ...

They also have a special area for kids to hang out in, as well as oodles of activities ...

Trixiee has done it. She loved it. Check out the race report section.

I went last year and Loved it.... The running group were fabulous people. All so friendly. There were all levels of runners, even slow ones like me:)
Food is fantastic, as Andy said many options.. I did not see a whole lot of kids, but that was probably because I hung around the adult pool area a lot.
The runs in the morning were a great way to start the day and still had the rest of the day to do all the other options like tours, sitting by the pool.
The guest speakers, Bart Yasso, Lisa Bentley and Dick Bearsdley each gave a very heartwarming presentation on their athletic career.
Jody and Jerry Friesen, organizers were amazing. You should email them if you have any questions. They are from your neck of the woods, Grimsby I believe. There is also a facebook page to go to, Cruise to run. With you living in NOL, you could easily fly from Buffalo, a lot cheaper I was told.
Hmmmmm... Think I might have to go again this year...

I want to do this so badly. Not with the family-- just myself! :) With a friend, preferably.

I haven't done the Cruise 2 Run but we've done a number of cruises. Our kids (now 12&10) love going on cruises, we're able to give them a bit of "freedom", there's a lot of kid activities, and they love the food selection. :D (okay so do I but my selections are little different than theirs ;) ).

And yes, Princess is great when you have kids because you can choose to do the anytime seating and have your own family table.

Yep ! Mrs. Tortoise and I went last year, me as a runner and she as a guest. We are already signed up again for this year. We liked the Princess Cruise Line and the run part was superb!! Great people!!! Friends of ours from K-W are also going this year - both as runners. Another running couple we met from Akron , Ohio are also signed up again. It should be even more fun!!

Come on - join the party!!

They have a photo company signed up starting this year. It's not Zoom, but it's another great company that we work with (www.mysportsshooter.com). Joe and I are hoping to go one year in Mike's place!

What time of year is it? I already have plans to go to France and see the Tour and ride L'Alpe d'Huez that summer (the year I turn 50).

January 22-29 for the Caribbean one in 2012:

http://www.cruisetorun.com/caribbean/index.html

I assume the 2013 one would be those dates but Saturday-Saturday.

They used to also have an Alaska one, but not this year, and not sure if there will be one in 2013. That one was in July.

DLS-
You may want to check with the organizers about activities for kids. In looking at the confirmation list for 2012, there are only six kids listed-- not sure how much that would increase. Regular cruises that cater more toward multi-ages expect a lot of kids and have lots of activities and camps you can sign up for-- it might not be the same on these run cruises.

It is part of a regular Princess Cruise - actually a small part. So far it runs Sunday-Sunday in the last week in January. It will likely be the same in 2013.
The Alaska Cruise was run by the same people - Jerry and Jody Friesen. However, there weren't enough runners to make it viable. They may try the summer Alaska Cruise again but not at the moment. As mentioned above, the CruisetoRun people are just part of the regular cruise. We do get some extra benefits such as the use of one of the club rooms for a short party and also reserving one complete section of a restaurant for a CruisetoRun dinner.

All of us have access to all the regular cruise activities and amenities as well.
