Robbie-T @ Makin' Memories 10k
Well I guess I better get to my race report. Thanks for all the previous congrats.
I did this race because it starts just across the road, some of our friends help organise it, I run on the course almost everyday (Cataract Trail, Erin - Belfountain) and it's a real family event. Free kids race and got a toy too, free face painting, bouncy castle and free burgers and hot dogs.
I treated this race as a 'B' race, I didn't really taper for it, I knew the course was slow, crushed gravel rail trail with long inclines, I figured there also wouldn't be much competition, but was hoping a few fasties would show up. I was hoping for a sub 40 and at least a good workout I know I can run a faster 10k on pavement but didn't have too high expectations for today.
The kids did their 1k race and had a great time and then the 5k and 10k races started. It was a pretty hot day, on a dusty gravel trail, and it turned out to be a solid run.
The first 200m and final 200m are on uneven grass, the rest is on the Cataract trail towards Belfountain that I often run. I started hard, and went to the front, after about 500m I looked at my watch, 3:15 pace or something like that and after the first km I was about 3:30. I knew that was a bit fast but I just kept hammering forward, I was on my own for this race except for the bike escort. Went through 5km 19:11, that's what the lead biker told me and I turned back. I saw the second place guy after about 300+ meters back so I was ahead of him over 600m at the half. I was starting to tire, and didn't figure anyone was going to sneak up on me and my pace slipped a bit. Made it back and broke the tape 38:58.
Great little race, they had so many draw prizes I think almost everyone got one, I picked up Bridie a 1.5 hour facial for her troubles.

You had little competition for this one. So how did that feel? It always struck me that you like it better when you are in for the comp to get that fire in your belly. Must have been just as good to hold the lead to command so strong, that's awesome!
Congrats RT, and good score on the facial for B!

As fun as it is to gut it out past someone at the end, chasing a pace bike is also a thrill that never gets old. Way to defend your turf.

I love races where kids can run, play and have fun watching the action. Added bonus was your tape breaking run, and the lovely score for the wife - nicely done Robbie-T!!

Sounds like a great little race. Congrats. How do we know you are not planning to keep the prize for yourself? Perhaps throw in a pedicure.
