STWM Results

Postby Robinandamelia » Mon Oct 17, 2011 8:20 am

I ran the full yesterday...My goal was anywhere from 3:50 to just a PB (improvement from 3:57:25). It was a rough start, I was supposed to be in the blue corral but didn't even get inside it...it was so crowded. Then had a hard time finding a line to run in. Then had to take a potty break at 7K and hit the bushes (yes girls can do it too). Didn't find a rhythm for quite some time. FInally settled into a 5:28 pace and held it for quite some time.... Saw Alfie at around the 1/2 mark. Not sure where but at some point my pace dropped to 5:30 which was fine. I had a pace band for a 3:50 marathon but they didn't have one for a 3:55 at the expo so just wrote down the pace of 5:34. So anything less than 5:34 should have gotten me to a my 3:55 finish (and a BQ under the new standards). I actually pulled in at 5:32 average pace so was surprised to see that I had a 3:55:04 time....I guess just using average pace doesn't really work, probably because of the .2 and the extra you run on tangents etc (I ran 42.46 km) so missed the new BQ by 4 seconds. I qualified and I'm in for 2012 but really wanted to qualify with the new standard too (just because as I'm not going to run Boston twice)....oh well. Super pleased with the result. A PB by about 2:25 and I ran the whole thing.

I love this race but it doesn't always love me. When I turned at about 36k to head back into the city and hit that head wind I was worried...it was a rough, rough last 8k for me. My last 2k took me over 13 minutes but I ran...no walking aside from the water stations. I ran up the hill over the DVP and that was another one of my goals....to not walk that hill. So all in all can't complain.

Saw the elites on course and saw Mr. Singh as well...that was awesome.

My results:
Chip time: 3:55:03.7
1511/3955 overall
47/182 category placement
331/1400 gender placement

Congrats, on a great race and pb ...

So, you did actually improve on your 2012 BQ time standards, correct ?

Yes I did actually that's true. My qualifying time for 2012 was 3:57:25 (4:00 to qualify), I needed 3:55 to qualify for 2013 and missed it by about 4 seconds. But my 2012 time is improved.

Robin, that's still a great PB with the windy conditions! Congratulations!

I heard alot of marathoners bemoan the final windy 6-8K, so hats off to you!

Great job!

I'd say the wind was worth more than 4 seconds... You can qualify for 2013 in the 2012 Boston no doubt! Might even get a 3:50!

Wow, speak of finishing with mixed emotions. A great race and PB, but those damn 4 seconds....

Well done though, in very tough conditions.

Congratulations on another strong race and a new PB. The marathon distance seems to really agree with you, Robin. :)

A PB with those kind of conditions, well done! Any other day, you would have BQed.

Congrats, Robin. Gotta love a PB on a tough day :). Nicely done.
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA

Big congrats!! It was windy out there, it took a lot out of me and I was only doing the 1/2.

You just ran a marvellous race Robin. You really looked so strong and confident. I saw you for the last time around 26 K and then I faded as I was forced to walk from Km 28 to 32 due to pain on my left hip bone.

Congrats on a PB and an almost 2013 BQ. I was right behind you at 4hours and the wind coming back was tough. I was calling it a 1-2 minute wind in terms of extra effort. Best not to use Garmin pace as your guide as unless the course is measured short or your run perfect tangents, you will be off. For me, it is the important kilometer splits--especially where they have timing mats. I find there are small margins of error with a lot of other kilometer markers.
