Doonst Runs With the Coyote: 14 K trail race

Postby Doonst » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:03 pm

Saturday September 29 I did the 14 K Chase The Coyote trail race in Mono Cliffs Ontario. It turned out to be quite a good day.

I had some concerns going in. My right knee has caused me some grief as recently as the previous weeks LSD, at about the 12 K mark. It was supposed to rain on and off. Also I felt a cold coming on.
The knee held up fine, it was a beautiful partly sunny day for running, and my cold held off until today, Sunday when it showed up with a vengeance.
First half was okay, a couple big hills were the only issue. I was leapfrogging with a guy around my age, he would pass me on the uphills and I would go by on the down. Halfway in he left for good at the top of some big stairs, but that was the last person to pass me. Second half I passed about 8 people, and actually felt like I was racing for a change. Felt strong right to the end, and pain free. The last 2 splits were the fastest of the day (sub 5!) Sure they were downhill a bit.
I placed midpack in both the race and my age group, but I felt good enough to sign up for a half marathon in three weeks. The comeback has begun.

Great seeing Robbie-T do so well, and run into BMan and Stella (Whaa? Last people I expected to run into at a small trail race so far from Ottawa). Heather and Tuzo came to cheer. I got the first door prize of the day, a pair of socks. Good day all round!
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Thanks for the report Doonst.

I wanted to do that race but it fell on the same day as the Toad. Maybe next year.
