Unsure about this one. I won't register before the early bird deadline December 31, and the price jumps a lot after that (only one regular price until late registration at the expo). I will wait on my decision till later in the spring for sure.

I found the half-marathon course deceivingly tough last year, but maybe I just pushed it too hard in those early downhill kilometres (my calves hurt just thinking about it). I'm also thinking about the Run for Water in Abbotsford at the end of May.

I'm undecided on the distance but leaning towards registering for the marathon before the first cutoff and play it by ear. Only problem is that the half would probably sell out well before I decide on the distance. Will do the half or marathon in Abby if Jen registers for it.

I'm a strong maybe and love visiting Vancouver that time of the year. If I race it, it will be the 1/2 but at the very least, I can spectate, cheer and participate in pre-/post-race RM festivities.

Can't you just tell me what to do? ;)

I'm actually thinking more about BMO now but will reserve decision till December 31.

What a great course to do your first marathon! This was also my first marathon this year too and I truly enjoyed my time.

Merry Christmas, Maniacs. DH and I are trying to firm up our spring plans for a visit out West so we can book reward flights soon. Is there a 'legal' transfer period for 1/2 m bibs in the weeks leading up to the race or are no transfers allowed? Is there a demand for 1/2m bibs leading up to race day?

No transfers to other people are allowed. You can switch from full to half or vice versa if space is available.

Last year was the first time both distances filled, after some very aggressive marketing. There was definitely demand for bibs as the race got closer, but people ran under other people's names.

Looking back at my earlier posts...

Now I don't know if I'll be ready for a half in May, but it looks unlikely now. I definitely won't be registering anytime before March.

But whatever happens I'll be there to cheer people on. :)

What Jennifer said, no transfers allowed. Having said that, I heard of people getting bibs thru craigslist.

Hmm, ok. I can imagine that transfers are a PITA for the race organizers so that's understandable. At this point, I'll try to book flights that will have me in town for the race so I can cheer at least and come to the M&G.

For those who are interested in doing some fundraising, you can enter as part of the RUN4HOPE program:

http://www.bmovanmarathon.ca/run4hope/

You pledge to raise at least $1000 for one of several charities, and for this you get entry to the race, a Running Room clinic, plus several other perks.

It looks like Van will be a no-go this year. I got confirmation of a big deadline at work and all of the insanity will be happening late April/early May for a May 17 deadline. We will be pushing back our trip to the Coast. :(

Will do. I'll have a look at what races you guys have on the go during the summer and will try to come out when there's something to run. Any suggestions?

There is the Scotiabank Half on June 23rd, running from UBC to Stanley Park.

There is the Longed Day Run at UBC, a 5K & 10K race thru the campus of UBC. I can’t see what date has been set yet, but my guess it will likely be on June 14th. This race is run on a Friday night and there is a beer garden after and a BBQ for the participants. This is a fun race and well organized, I ran it with Jwolf in 2011.

There is also the run for water in Abbotsford on May 26th, but I’m not sure if you want to travel out to Abbotsford if you are staying in Richmond or Vancouver and I think this is the same weekend as the ORW too. There is a 5k, 10K, half & full.
