Okanagan Marathon - Same weekend as Victoria's

Anyone doing the Okanagan Marathon in Kelowna? Scrabblerunner is doing the full and I will be doing the half.

MichaelMc and I are in for the full. If he hits his PB goal, he may end up on the podium. My goal is to get within an hour of my brother's 21K time.

I have done the full two times in the past (a few years ago when I was more sprightly) and they have been my fastest and second fastest marathons I have ever done (3:15 in 1999 and 3:17 in 2006). Surmising that the route hasn't changed much since, I would say that it bodes well for MichaelMc to get on that podium and who knows maybe there will be room for you too...even if it is after everyone has left.

Ian and I ran together virtually the whole way, keeping each other honest on the pace. For a guy that hasn't been running much Ian is still extremely strong and never really wavered: he even passed off his water to me a couple of times when the aid station fumbled a hand-off. With 2km left we were nearly caught by another runner and I decided I needed to make the guy work for the pass into 4th place: that was the few seconds difference in our finish time.

I'm really happy with my result given a less than perfect taper: it was a hard effort, so I take more pride in it. Almost a 3 minute PB for me, so I can thumb my nose at Father Time for a little while longer. A well run race with a solid assist for Ian, who had planned in running this much more comfortably.

You and Ian did great and I wish you both hearty congratulations. Too bad we never got the chance to meet up with each other, maybe some of your speed would have rubbed off on me. Happy Thanksgiving.
