Hello all

Postby ShadowDev » Thu Jan 23, 2014 8:35 pm

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well

I've recently decided to take up running and this was about 2 weeks ago. I have since found that I absolutely love it :). At first it was just a way to get back into shape but the more I push myself the more I find that I am enjoying every mile I run. So I've decided to train for a 5k and I'm aiming to getting there in about 5 weeks.

I"m running 5 times a week and walking 4 miles on the 6th day :) a bit crazy but I do enjoy pushing my limits. I started out simply running for 5 minutes and then increased it to 10 minutes this week, next week I will increase it to 15 minutes. I tend to walk for 20 minutes before I start running, Run for 10 minutes , walk 5 mins then run 2 minutes / walk 1 for the last 5 / 10 minutes of my workout. I will continue to add 5 minutes to my running time until I'm up to 35 minutes without walking. (any suggestions / comments on how I can better this are most welcome)

I'd also like to add that while I am pushing my limits I never get out of bed limping or have my legs so sore that I struggle to walk. :D

While I'm still getting to a stage where I will be able to run my first 5k I'm really enjoying the process of getting there and look forward to conversing with all of you.

Welcome to RM, and congrats on your new-found interest in running. Sounds like your run-walk program is working well for you, esp. since you aren't showing any signs of lingering soreness. I, too, started out run/walking, and was so excited the day I could finally run for 30 whole minutes, non-stop and non-walking. Carry on, and good luck on your first 5k!

Welcome to the RM nation! Just a cautionary tale, it started with a 5k race for me just over 3yrs ago and after numerous 5 & 10k’s, many half’s, then two full marathons and the rest is history so to speak.
PB’s (official race results)
5K – 26:20; 8K – 41:28; 10K – 52:13; 15K - 1:22:43; 21.1K – 1:54:16; 30K – 2:51:34; 42.2K – 4:24:14

What is up for 2018
Feb 11th - First Half Vancouver
TBA
Planning & in my sights
Jun 9th - Puddle Jumper Classic

Run the mile you're in. Not the one behind you, and not the one in front of you - the one you are running now :) - purdy65

Welcome! I'm just about to sign up for the Achilles 5k as well - I've been in a running slump since having a tough slog in my first marathon in the fall. I need a nice brisk 5k to perk my motivation back up!
