Is Chainsawbaby the same as "Running Challenged" Pierre?
I forget. Anyway, he mentioned this new race on his blog:

Wish I had time to go do that. Sounds good.

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
The Icarus legend would seem to follow in the steps of Aristotle's Golden Mean. Do not go to low but neither go too high and one could say the couch in too low but an Ultra is too high at least in terms of this myth. Not sure I would name a race after a myth that doing too much results in death. The myth also warns of hubris and narcissism in attempting to over come certain limitations. In my opinion, the closer embodiment of ultra running would be Sisyphus.

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
Hi all.
I am both Chainsaw Baby and Vertical Pierre. I tried changing my RM account over to a single pseudonym, but got caught in an infinite loop... Icarus is a well run event (see my blog for a brief description) and they seem to have added a January event:
http://www.icarusfloridaultrafest.com/2 ... rus-spring
Also of note, most of the Ontario Trail/Ultra Series races have set their dates:
http://www.ouser.org
Kingston and Ottawa are a go, but have not yet been added to the OUSer site.
For those of you heavily into pain, yes, Creemore will host a 75K distance next year. Note it will take place in early August, NOT early July.
Cheers!

January is a little too soon for me to enter another multi-day.

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
I believe the rule-of-thumb is no more than a dozen 3-day events per month...
Re: Icarus Ultrafest
Pierre,
Its great you are doing a 75 km option. I was disappointed that 48 hours disappeared from Dirty Girls, but this makes up for it. Just curious, what will the cut-off for 75 be?
I was hoping Dave Carver would add his race to the series. I need all the long distance options I can get. As a slower runner, the only way I can get lots of points is by running the longest distance races.

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
Yeah, 48 hours is a LONG time to have volunteers at 2 aid stations, timing, etc. I helped Diane and Henri quite a bit this year and noticed how hard it is on the RD's, who work almost non-stop from Wednesday evening until Sunday night...
CVC 75K: Nothing is set in stone and I might use 2015 as a gauge, but I'm leaning towards a 6:00 AM start and a fairly aggressive 12 hour cut-off for the 75K. The big concern is having delirious runners out on the roads on Saturday evening... I would also like to limit the volunteer shifts to 6 hours, discounting the overlap. I expect to be hard pressed to find enough vollies for 2 shifts at AS 1, 2, 3 and the S/F!
The 50K time limit will be 8.5 hours. The progressive cut-offs would be 4 hours for the first 25K of the 50K and 8 hours for the first 50K of the 75K. Hopefully slower runners that are not chasing series points would opt for the 50K, with its "easier" cut-off. I know the 75K limit is a bit aggressive, but I'll try to convince runners that the 3rd loop is easier. I just have to figure out why it would be easier... Leg memory? Erosion?
Cheers!

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
As long as its not really muddy, I think 12 hours is fine. I was thinking it would take me around 10 hours to complete! 6 am start would be great. We will be sleeping in our SUV the night before!

Re: Icarus Ultrafest
One update...
After talking to some other wackoo runners - sorry, ultrarunners, the 75K cut-off will be set for 2015 at 12.5 hours. 75K Runners still need to complete 50K in 8 hours to continue. This is mainly for us older runners! We expect WGR and Chris to churn out a 6 or 7 hour 75K...
2 hours per loop? Yes, I'm living vicariously through other runners!
