Motorized Doping Officially Here!

Postby jonovision_man » Mon Feb 01, 2016 9:17 am

I remember when this first came up with Cancellara, everyone laughed... oh, how we laughed, it's absurd! A motor!?

The future is now:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci-con ... pionships/

UCI President Brian Cookson has confirmed that the governing body found evidence of a motor in a bike at the cyclo-cross World Championships on Saturday. Following the under 23 women’s race on Saturday, the UCI issued a press release stating that they were investigating a rider’s bike for possible “technological fraud.".

Ha that one was funny, but this cranks aren't moving... unless it's some kind of hub mechanism, seems unlikely though.

The original... oh how we all laughed.....

It would be weird, but his bike taking off on him after a crash is weird too

"For her part, Van den Driessche says the bike belonged to a friend, and mistakenly found its way into her race-day bike lineup.
The UCI will be investigating thoroughly"

Yeah sure, right...

It looks weird. At the time I figured it was just momentum, like wheel span up during the fall and did the vroom vroom thing when it touched the pavement. There was another article though on having some kind of system in the wheel rim itself... so you never can tell. :)

My French is letting me down - but in their initial experiment at about the 5:00 mark where they put a motor in a bike and used the camera, it glows significantly and is very obvious.

I don't find their in-race videos as convincingly glowy. Like the one just after 8:30, seems like it could be something else (overheating bearing or something?) - it's just not entirely obvious... same with 9:30, there could be alternative explanations potentially.

6 year ban:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/van-den ... al-doping/

This is so blatantly cheating, there's no excuse, no grey area - I would think lifetime suspensions are warranted. Although given the typical career length of a pro cyclist, 6 years will often be the same as lifetime... hard to imagine someone could stay in any kind of form for 6 years without being allowed to race or train with pros. Not to mention the ravages of age!
