Splits -> http://robbie-t.mtbhost.com/laps.php?id=453

The day started early, 5:30am, got the boys ready and headed to Paris. Arrived around 8:10am. Talked it up with a swarm of Maniacs, everyone was feeling good and ready to go.

My nephews ran the 1k fun run. Both of them PB'd Tyler (5:55 to 5:53) and Thomas (6:48 to 6:21)

A few group photos and we were off. I started off at a 4:20-25 pace, I thought I'd like to be able to hold this through the race, I knew that was pretty ambitious but that was my goal. I looked back at about 5k, saw that Ed Fizz was about 10 feet behind me, I gave him the it's on point, he pointed back. I talked to one local guy for a few k's, we talked about farming and yields in the area, not the typical race chit chat.

I ran this race on feel, and perceived exertion, not at all about THINK, I knew it could have negative impacts. We headed up the long back straight-away, I think the wind was causing some people troubles, I kept picking up the pace. A couple guys I passed started drafting me for a couple k's until I lost them up a hill. I hit the short turn around part between 15k and 16k and passed my last guy, saw Fizz and Runningman, changed direction and was going with the wind now. Still feeling remarkably good, I tried to pick up the pace, at 18k I looked at my watch, knowing I could PB but now calculating that I could pop 1:30. I hit the last km up a good hill then a couple smaller hill steps, turned into the school yard and could hear Mania-dom screaming from there. Hit the track and tried to finish hard, as I turned the corner and could see the clock, I knew it was a good day to run!! 1:29:14

Thanks to everyone for their support and congratulations, specially luvmybabies and the boys for hanging out in the cold waiting for Daddy.

Bridie has a mess of photos that we will post soon.

PB from June of 5:32
2004 course PB of 10:05

Chip Time 1:29:14
Pace 4:14
Over All - 22/235
Gender 18
Age 30-39 8/23 (my age group was totally stacked even a local hero Joseph Nderitu ran)

CONGRATS ON A MONSTER OF A HALF! :what:

It was so amazing seeing you coming into the field & onto the track... Darren had figured a couple of minutes to round the track & we were on pins & needles screaming for you, knowing that you would come in sub 1:30... :D :D

Amazing to see you do this first hand & look as fresh as a daisy at the end...

BTW - I am yet another fan of some of the cutest RM kids I have ever met!..

Every time it seems like you might level off because of a new monster PB, you go and post a new monster!

You're the most mentally tough and ambitious runner I've met...

And pretty freakin' down-to-earth, to boot. Congratulations on an awesome run. Three cheers for Bridie and the boys out in the chill, too. :)

The word that comes to mind is "smokin". Man, you knew what you were going to do off the bat and went out and did it. I think we are a bit alike, the way we think. Hindsight is so 20/20 in this racing stuff. The perceived exertion worked for you, I wish I'd have thought of that before 8 or 9k!We seem to have the same goals and I have a feeling we will both be going to Boston soon.

Robbie that is getting crazy fast, excellent! Your pace graph just keeps going up and up.
I'm actually starting to worry that you might be training too much though. Some outside interests other than running might not be a bad idea. Meet a girl, settle down, maybe have a couple of kids. Get a piece of land, start a garden why don't you. Or a hobby, like computers and software. Have a couple beers damnit! How you do it all, I honestly don't know.
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Maybe he could grow a giant pumpkin and enter it in the fair, that could be a good hobby?

I have been amazed by your progress through this season. I doesn't appear as if you are anywhere near your limit. I'm thinking that a sub-3 hour marathon is within your grasp.

You are a freight train with a remarkably powerful engine!
