Robbie-T @ Hartwell Challenge Half w/pics

Postby Robbie-T » Sun Apr 15, 2007 10:18 pm

I went into this race with no real expectations but to do a solid run, I didn't taper, I actually had a pretty tough training week, the weather looked like it could be a challenge itself and I understood that this is no PB course anyway. Dave claimed it is the toughest Half in Ontario, I agree now.

The weather actually was fine for the race, a bit windy and cold, but not the brutal wind that was predicted. I started off with the 1:30 pace bunny, I never really have run with a bunny, and I didn't stay with him for long, maybe 5k. Once I found my groove I broke away and was running solo for much of the rest of the race. This course was very hilly especially from 12-16k it was pretty much a rolling climb, from the peak it was a nice fall for a couple km's then a few decent hills again just to bust you up before the finish.

I finished 1:29:01 a new PB, 12th overall, and received the 2nd place prize for my age group.

Hats of to the race organizers, the race had it all, best small race I've participated in.

I added on another 8k or so after the race, and spent some of it running in with Dave and James. I drove in with Alan (thanks) and I saw DGrant1 at the start, but I missed all the other RM runners, sorry.

Great effort, Rob -- your times are always impressive, but it will be really cool to see how you progress over the next couple of years. You were looking pretty strong when you ran me in -- that you put in another 8K after a phenomenal effort on a tough course is just incredible.

Nice action shots, guy!
