Robbie-T @ Night Crawler 5 Miler

Postby Robbie-T » Thu Jun 21, 2007 9:54 am

This race is very well organized and is very convenient for me as it is close to work, besides its on my training path. Starts on the Martin Goodman trail near Dufferin Street, west down and over the Humber river, east back along the board walk, and finishes just past the rowing club for 5 tough miles. The course is generally flat, a nice decline at the start to make sure everyone starts out way too fast, a hill/bridge to cross the Humber river twice then what feels like a mountain to climb by that time in the final 1km in front of the Legion.

We had a late start due to some online registration issues that the organizers handled very well. I started out with a 3:50/km pace goal and if I felt better I'd push it. Km's 2,3 and 4 were fairly windy I lost maybe 20 seconds because of wind. I stayed close to rundmc for the first half and we passed runners one by one. In the second half he took off and I stayed on pace. I focused on the next runner ahead of me, closed the gap and over took them. This race goes by fast but feels like forever at the same time, a hard 8k is a real gut check. I was happy to be in the final 2k, passed the 4 Mile split and started to pick up the pace. Up the small mountain one more runner to pass and grind out a fast finish. I felt strong for the full race, I'm happy with my race, I had a whisper goal to go under 31:00 and maybe on a different night it would happen.

I finished with 31:20 16th place overall but only 10th in my age category!! Some pretty quick guys at this race. Last year I was 33:30 and 67 overall, for a nice 2:10 improvement.

Seems wrong to talk Metric pace for an Imperial race.

Nice race, Rob. It was good to talk to you afterwards, too.

Great run buddy! Nice improvement from last year - you just keep getting better.

Did you ever catch up to Adeel?

Great job, buddy! Nice improvement. I would have been there again too, but I'm in Basel right now. Love that race... I also see from the results that my buddy Jason (who you met there last year) came third...

Yeah I said Hi to him, I had to tell him that I knew you  and I met him last year through you. Now he is fast.

Might see you at the Brampton Half.

Great result and looks like a well-run race Robbie. Those short ones can be tricky to pace. I am running out of ways to say how fast you are getting; don't forget us little people who knew you when you were a Clyde, eh?
