Robbie-T Runs for Grapes Half (plus pic)

Postby Robbie-T » Sun Sep 30, 2007 1:42 pm

First Instrides puts on a great race, very well done in all aspects.
Free running hat, long sleeve T, great bag of swag, nice medal and great variety of good food after the race. I'm for sure running Grimsby Half next year.

The Report
Up at 4:45am!! drive to St.Catharines (about 1.5 hours) arrive in loads of time. Pick up up kit, talk to EdFizz a bit. We warm up together, 2k easy out and back along the route.

Before the start I introduce myself to OneStep and then line up near the front. My goal is 1:25:xx, Doonst thought I could do it so I'm going to try. Honestly going into this race I thought it was a long shot and I was hoping to just PB.

We start, I'm feeling relaxed at my pace but it's only about 4:05, that's not going to get me to 1:25. I'm running in a small pack, and decide to pull away, slowly I catch up to runners ahead of me one at a time. Now I'm getting comfortable with a sub 4:00 pace, I've never felt this comfortable at this pace. The course is generally flat, a bit of slight inclines and declines, and one section of about 3k of small rollers.

At 15k I decide to just hold pace until 17k then I'll start pushing more.
Pass a couple more guys then I set my sights on trying to pass the #2 female before the finish. She eludes me for a long time but I finally over take her in the last km.

Only one picture of me was found.
How 'bout those yeller shoes. I left that girl in my dust.
Image

Finished, I had a great run, new PB by about 3:30!, 2nd for my age group,
Met Redhead and chatted with EdFizz and OneStep again.
EdFizz hung out with me for the awards presentation, thanks I appreciate that.
This totally pumps me up for the Hamilton Marathon Nov 4th, is Sub 3 possible?

Chip time 1:24:26 PB
Age Group 2/26
Overall 17th

Splits (Garmin recorded 21.18k)
5k - 20:18
10k - 20:15
15k - 19:53
20k - 19:39
1k - 3:48
.1k - :34

Well then. If Doonst says it will be so, then it must be. ;)

Awesome job Robbie. I'm sure that a sub 3:00 is doable in Hamilton.
Sounds like a fun race and lots of swag!!
When is the Grimsby Half?
Cheers,

WOW! Another PB. Sounds like you ran a smart race as usual.

How sweet would it be if Doonst could just tell all of us what we could do and we did it? He could be like magic eight ball, predicting our dream race times :D .

I wish it were that easy...

We're going to try this new thing called jogging. Or maybe it's yogging-with a silent "j". Apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.

It's a good thing you don't run more races, I'm running out of things to say. We all expect you to astonish us with your progress, and you continue to do it. You really live up to your "no limits" motto. Well done Robbie.

Your next assignment, should you agree to accept it, sub 1:23 by next May. (yes that's your NYC qualifier time). 8)
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Robbie-T --- what an awesome race you had. I wish I could have watched you run. I was just past the turn-around point while you were crossing the finish line, LOL! My hubby and I did stay for the awards presentation but I was too shy to go up near the front with the winners. I did cheer for you though. You're amazing!!!
