Robbie-T @ YMCA Corporate Challenge 4x5k
Quick report for an event that is really put on very well, very friendly, very fun for all levels. Had a great time!
Our Team included
Andrew Cooke 17:35*
Rob Tolman 18:02
James Earl 17:05*
Robert Earl 16:35*
The Earl brothers are 48 and twins, Rob has had very low numbers in his early days. The Earls were ranked top two in Ontario in High School, Rob has had times like 28:xx 10k, 13:xx track 5k (or something crazy like that) Rob had no problems letting me know his past they are both great guys.
(* times best I can remember)
We finished 2nd overall, what a great overall event though wow. Very corporate so many (mostly) social runners and walkers, but a great list of great runners too (met Michael Hay triathlete). Had to do a lot of zig zagging through the people. 2 loops (2.5k per loop, the course was a hair short 50m) and 327 teams! Our time was 1:09:15 avg 17:19 per 5k!!! I ran 18:02!! I felt so good, I looked at my watch about 750m in and saw 3:30 pace, I thought I feel good, but I better back off a bit. I thought 18:30 would be an aggressive goal last night with all the people, even without the people I thought that would be aggressive.
I was honoured just to be asked to run with these guys.
Splits of 3:39 - 3:42 - 3:35 - 3:47 - 3:37
I'm going for sub 17:59 Saturday on the Horse track at Mohawk!!

"I just hope that people look at it and say, 'Hey if this yahoo can do it, then I can do it too.' That'd be cool if people thought that. It's just a matter of putting the miles in and working. It's not so much how much talent you have. I hope." - Brian Sell.

Wow second out of 327 teams! That's some squad where you're the weak link. Well done Robbie, that's big-time.
next up:
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Sorry I didn't see you! I was finishing my 2nd lap around 1:15. It's a super fantastic event. Holy speed batman! Awesome!!!
(perhaps I need to get some tips for you for the PEC shallonge)
My team was there too and we remain undefeated in the Female 19-29 category (3 years running)! We had some line up substititions last minute, but it worked out great!

Wow, nice running!
I had the fun of participating in this event for the first time, and because of no-shows had to run twice - after doing the Ottawa Half on Sunday - eep!!! First loop was 22:38 (pretty darn fast for me). For the second loop I missed starting my watch but it was slower - guesstimate about 25:00. Had a great time and hope to be back next year.
Good luck with the 5 K on Saturday!
