3+ loops around the Mohawk Race Track

well, not a perfect day for racing, pretty windy (25 k/h) on the home stretch and pretty humid in between rains. Spent the morning chasing around and carrying kids at Bridie's school.
1k 3:37 - started behind horse gates, took lead near end of this km
2k 3:42 - lead this km
3k 3:48 - lead this km
4k 3:50 - lead this km
5k 3:33 - lead half this km, the wrong half though, I need to make the other believe he is OK with 2nd.
18:32 - PB, 2nd Overall, 2nd in my age group, but got the first place award (overall winner also in my age group), a neat plaque with a horse shoe on it, and a couple gift certificates.
Neck and neck for most of the race with this wee little guy, 31. He had more left for a final kick.
If I didn't race Wednesday, maybe I would have done better, but I'm pretty happy with this result for this day.
Bridie Video taped it, Man I look like a lot heavier runner then I thought I was. Watching the video I feel like I'm running faster then it looks. If you have never video taped yourself you should it's interesting to see.
It was still a solid run, I got the job done. Had a good time. Fun to actually race someone for the full 5k though.
Next is the Night Crawler 5 Miler in Toronto Jun 18.

"I just hope that people look at it and say, 'Hey if this yahoo can do it, then I can do it too.' That'd be cool if people thought that. It's just a matter of putting the miles in and working. It's not so much how much talent you have. I hope." - Brian Sell.

Look on the bright side, at least your not in the CLYDESDALE division anymore! Hahaha, couldn't resist.
Seriously though, that is a smoking fast time! ...and on what I can only assume would have been a tough row to hoe as far as running on the horse track and all that. Well done!
So what kind of odds were they giving you? Oh man, you could make a million sweet jokes about that race...

Not too shabby, Robbie-T, that must be something to run most of it out front. Still, always the bridesmaid eh? Really that is impressive, congrats.
next up:
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Some faster short speedwork will probably lift you to another level.
Thanks, What is your definition of Short? 400m?

Even shorter. Distances where you can run fast without fatigue or worrying about pacing.
Sebastian Coe used to recommend doing about 12x200 as a means of raising all your sub-maximal speeds efficiently.
I know it goes against the grain of conventional wisdom for distance running but it can really jump you out of that one paced rut that is easy to fall into.

Well done Rob! I don't think you need to change too much. You would've been around 18 flat if you hadn't run the relay on Wednesday.
I agree with Pat that some running around mile pace (35-36 for 200s) will help your 5k. Take another shot in 4-5 weeks.

I'll take Robbie-T's rut any day Congratulations, it must be exhilerating knowing you're the front runner for most of the race.

None too shabby results. I'm guessing you were racing on dirt the whole way? Anyone wear cleats?
Sorry to hear you got out-kicked at the end. But then, losing here is good practice for October 5th
