Robbie-T @ Night Crawler 5 Miler
Goal was to get below 30:00, I ran 30:04 PB (5 seconds!!)
km Splits (don't get much more even then that)
1- 3:38
2- 3:44
3- 3:45
4- 3:46
5- 3:43 - 18:36 through 5k
6- 3:46
7- 3:48
8- 3:41
88m extra :14
hmmm if it really was long I did make my goal
I had a solid race, perfect weather for a fast race. I raced with Jimmy Semes (this is a guy that I've been zeroing in on for a while now) for the final km and out kicked him solidly at the finish, with a final Robbie-T type grunt to finish, good times. I ran with Adeel's corporate team, we placed 2nd in the mens teams. Free socks and mesh shoe bag.
30:04 puts me in top 25 if Open and Corporate results are combined. Lot's of fast competition.
Great time at this races as always, great food, great environment.
Lots of friendly familiar faces.

Nice race, Rob.
Why do you think the course was long? Are those kilometer marker splits or from your gamin?
Also- wasn't it 5 miles, not 8K? 5 miles = 8.045K. They had mile splits on the course, right?

I was curious about the mile splits vs. kilometer splits, though... Did they have both?

The course was all Mile splits, someone at each one yelling them out, very nice. Those splits were from my Garmin.
I think My mile splits were all about 5:52-5:58 range, I can't remember anymore. I don't look at my watch too much in these short races. My watch pace doesn't really matter that much, I find it is all and level of exertion, and being able to mentally push through the pain, I'm already max'ed out so looking at my watch isn't going to improve anything.

True, but it's so hard to know how hard the exertion should feel to maintain it for 20-30 minutes over the course of these short races until you get more experience at them. It's interesting that this result is quite a bit better than what your 5K times would predict-- those times will certainly go down with more specific short training.

Nice job - great splits. Did you at least get one worm out of the race or are the worms just for the winner?
