Robbie-T @ Ontario Masters 5K XC Championships

Postby Robbie-T » Mon Nov 17, 2008 9:07 am

This is the second XC race of the season for me, still have a cold that has been hanging on for about 3 weeks now and is really starting to frustrate me.

Still very excited for this race, but not feeling strong for it, however I will go and give it my best.

Hangout with Fizz and warm up with 3 easy km and some strides. Some how I get in the front row for the start, the front row is about 50 wide so lots of room. I take off like a mad man, that doesn't last for long and I settle into a pace I might be able to hold. Saturday it had rained all day and the course reflected that. Water holes and mud everywhere, and following the tracks of about 4 previous races the course was already chewed up pretty good.

Half way through I feel like I'm breathing through a mask feeling a bit oxygen deprived. Still trying to red line and make it to the finish in good time. One more turn, last big mud hole and done. Wow 24:00 flat for 5k!!! noway for 6k according to Forerunner, everyone else was talking about the distance being way off too.

48/138 overall
7/14 AG

Pretty decent placement in the end, didn't feel I was near as strong as I could have been but it was a heck of a workout. In two weeks I will be healthy for the National XC Championships in Guelph and be able to run stronger.

This stuff can only make me stronger for the Egg Nog Jog and that is what really matters.

You forgot to mention that a girl out-kicked you at the line...

See ya in Guelph.

Sounds like it was fun, even without the hill.

And I sure hope that at the provincial championships you got beat by a girl. I'd be worried about the state of women's masters running in this province if you didn't.

Now let's have a no excuses race in Guelph and see what you're really made of...
2009 Highlights
Marathon - 2:54:05 (Mar 22 - Tokyo)
Half - 1:20:00 (Apr 26 - Hartwell)
5k - 17:09 (Acura 5k - Jul 19)
800m - 2:16.80 (York U - Jul 28 )

My training log

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

"There are two types of injuries that we older runners get: those that we can run with and those that we can't. And if you're over 30 and don't have one or the other, you aren't training hard enough." - Younger Legs blog

Nice effort. Looks like fun.... but

Take care of yourself and lay low when you
are going through a stale patch. Blasting your
system when it's down won't really make you
stronger.

Next fall I'd like to be out there.

Wow! Great work, Robbie-T! When are you gonna see a doctor about that "cold"??????
Lightning :)

We're going to try this new thing called jogging. Or maybe it's yogging-with a silent "j". Apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.
