team tri?

Postby JamesP123 » Sun Feb 22, 2009 11:31 pm

I was just wondering if there are triathlons where one person swims , another person bikes and the third person does the run..I have a friend who is a very good swimmer and a buddy who is a strong biker and I will do the run.

also..if this is an event, are there co-ed teams? my friends are interested and I thought this would be a fun way to get them training again

yep - look for a relay category.

it's a great way to ease into tris. or to save a tri season if you get injured and have to abandon one discipline.

depending on the size of the tri there may be categories for all male, all female, or mixed teams. age categories are often over/under 75 [with 75 being the combined ages of the team].

A lot of the races have "relay" where you can do exactly that! 8) Get 3 people together, one swims, another rides, the third runs. You switch off your chip in the transition zone.

If you are thinking of doing HSBC in Lakeside (between London & Stratford) there is a relay option in both the Sprint & Triathlon distance.

Also, many of the Somersault tris in the Ottawa area have team catgories!

Me and Donald are doing GWN together- wanna join the team? :)

I do two tri's a year as part of a team. Here in Perth, my friend swims, then I bike and run. At the Barry's Bay tri, he swims, I bike, and his wife runs. Its a lot of fun that way. You get all the fun, without all the stress.

I did the Welland Try-a-Tri 2 years ago. It's an OK course. The swim is in the recreational part of the canal which is quite different. It's rectangular instead of triangular. LONG run from water to transition though. On bike path & across a parking lot. Me not likey! Bike course is relatively flat, but the wind 2 years ago was BRUTAL! Run is on bike path, out & back.

Finish is in the arena, which is cool.

that sounds cool. The finishing in the arena..and yea I have heard that its like 900 meter run from the swim to the bike area, thats crazy...would you recomend this race for a beginer?

I would definitely recommend it for a beginner. Although that 900 M jaunt from swim exit to transition is a bit of an anomaly for most races in the area.

Like I said, the bike is relatively flat, the swim is nice, and it's not a wave/mass start. It's a one-by-one start with about 10 seconds between each swimmer. A bit less stressful if you're worried about the proverbial washing machine swim start of triathlon.
