Porta-potty twist in Mississauga
I had my dream goal for this race, but with my recent training negatively affected by my extra long hours at work, I didn't have high expectations.
I was about to enter porta-potty when the race gun sounded. I waited a moment, left all my pre-race excitement in that toilet and headed to the start line. I was surprised that there was a huge number of people still walking towards the start line.
running (in orange at the top) towards the start line:
Normally I would run the first km at pace much better than my planned race pace regardless of the distance, but this time I run my first two km at 4:48 and 4:52 (effect of huge crowd and porta-potty), far off my planned race pace of 4:43. I was able to run closer to my planed pace for the rest of the race, reaching 3:31 and 3:34 on downhill splits, with exception of 5:04 uphill on 11th km.
In my last 4.2 km, with some help from the tailwind, I was able to accelerate to PB of 1:39:50 ( 5 seconds PB !)
My pace (1 km splits, time and distance by my own gps):
I thought in the past that I don't need a long taper, but this results suggests that my relatively low millage in the month leading to the race and very easy tapering week rewarded me with very nice result. I will not take it to seriously although because downhill course, tailwind for most of the race and beautiful weather were very important factors today.
I met multiple maniacs after the race, most with improved PBs, and witnessed BQ finish by Lightening . Overall great racing day in Mississauga

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

"I just hope that people look at it and say, 'Hey if this yahoo can do it, then I can do it too.' That'd be cool if people thought that. It's just a matter of putting the miles in and working. It's not so much how much talent you have. I hope." - Brian Sell.

As always you did it your way! Nice results, of course I had to outdo you with a 6 second PB. The race is on at Sulphur Springs right?
next up:
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

I recognized you from your avator,a dn you passed me at 11k mark. I called out to you but I think you had head phones. You were looking strong and smooth.
Congratulaion on your race. Maybe starting at the back and passing everyone as you go can be a good strategy..
