Doing the Dirty Girls

Postby West Grey Runner » Fri Jul 10, 2009 9:21 am

The best running event of the year is coming up Aug 8, “The Dirty Girls”. http://www.dirtyrunnerproductions.com/trail_race/ I know of 4 Maniac’s doing the 24 hour so its time to find out who is waiting on the sidelines ready to jump into the game!

If you want to try a trail or a new distance this is a great opportunity! Up for grabs is a 24, 12 or 6 hour event and new for this year a 30K distance.

The event takes pace at the Mansfield Outdoor Center 90 minutes North of Toronto! The course is a 10K loop, very sheltered … lots of shade, good drainage… 4 of my 6 hours last year were in the rain, no muck and yes there is elevation, +/- 729m per loop!

Here is a Google Earth shot of the course….
Image

I can’t say enough good things about the race director Diane and the way that the entire event is run! Its just pure running fun in a great place. Registration is limited to 150 runners so if your sitting on the fence don’t delay, register today!

I am seriously having trouble figuring out the date of the 30K - Saturday the 8th or Sunday the 9th? Every date I see says Aug 8 and 9. Help? If it's the Saturday I think I will register.

I'm considering this one again. Either the 30k or 6 hours. The 30k would be closer to my master plan for Haliburton but I'd love to try the 6 hour. Plus this is one week after we make our big move to Sudbury, so I'll have to bring it up again with the hubby to see if it would work out. I don't know how far it would be from Sudbury :? ... everywhere seems to be at least a 4 hour drive.

I am seriously having trouble figuring out the date of the 30K - Saturday the 8th or Sunday the 9th? Every date I see says Aug 8 and 9. Help? If it's the Saturday I think I will register.

I would imagine it's on the Saturday. I'm thinking they say the 9th because of the 24hour race :?: .

All the events start Saturday, only the 24 hour spills into Sunday.

I'll be at the 5Peaks Albion race that day this year, but I agree with Ron that Diane does a great job with this event. A very basic race in the best possible way.

Albion is early this year!

I will be at my annual "Girl's weekend" at the cottage, a different sort of "dirty girls", but the Chipmunk with rabies is quite excited, if not only for the shirt.

Yeah, this is a race I truly look forward to each year. Diane does an amazing job organizing the event. She's so detail-oriented and she has funny swag. Can't wait!!

As for the course, it is well marked, rolling and really fun. Not really technical, but depending on how dry the trails are going to be, there are some roots and a few sandy sections, on single and double track. Perfect for running around in loops. ;-)

This year the event is capped, so if you're sitting on the fence, I suggest jumping in sooner than later.

Glad to hear that you will be joining us. I checked out the 30K Rules and you are eligible to camp…

Image

You are in for a treat if you want to watch the other runners. The camping area is in a big open field right at the start/finish area. There isn’t much in the way of facilities but there is a flush toilet! Maybe some that has camped there before can fill you in.

We camped there in '07 and in '08 and are camping there again this year. There's a big grassy area where you pitch your tent and which is the start/finish area. There's a portable with flush toilets. In terms of showers, 2 years ago we walked over to a camp facility for autistic kids (about 1km) and there was an arrangement with them and they let us use the showers. People were also talking about a creek somewhere around the camp grounds, but I'm not sure where that is. Last year we sort of hosed down our legs outside the portable and had a sponge bath. This year I'm running 24hrs and taking all the dirt home.

I wonder if we could alternate directions on each loop thereby making it a neutral elevation race? giggles...

You still have to walk up the hills, Rabid! :D
How's the skirt/skort situation looking?
You know, you can always go for a tutu over your shorts/tights, like Keith Straw at Badwater. (Btw, you might remember him from Sulphur Springs, only sans tutu.)

That's exactly the look I'm going for Kinga! I remember him from Sulphur, and he also did ATB with the Tu-Tu (in that cold!)
