Garmin 220

Postby LyndaJ » Sat Jul 05, 2014 8:08 am

So I asked my husband for a new Garmin for my Bday this week. Everywhere I look, except on the Garmin site, folks seem to be selling the 220 heart rate monitor only. I definitely do not want a heart rate monitor as I hate those straps.

Anybody else have this experience?

gpscity.com has the 220 without the HRM: http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-forerunne ... d-red.html

eta: there's a purple one too.

You can just turn off the heart rate monitor, and not wear it.

But it costs an extra $50-100 to buy the watch with it- it's better to save the money if you know you'll never want to use it.

Depends where you find it, Costco has had several models, with heart rate monitor, but at discount price.

Thank you everyone.

Yes, the strap adds $50 to the overall price, so they'res no point if I'm not going to use it.

I know they'res a purple/white option which I like, but I worry about how filthy the white will become.

Also checked Costco, but they don't have the newer Garmins.

I have heard issue with this watch with pace accuracy-- apparently not as good as some of the other watches, but best if you use lap pace.

I am still waiting for the perfect watch that can send data by bluetooth to my phone. I hoped this was it, but not yet. :)

I believe the new Suunto Ambit 3 Sport, due out this September will do that and more.

Thanks I'll look into it- although right now I'll probably keep my 910xt until it dies. :)

:)

I still really like the 910xt especially for swimming. I just wish it had BTLE transfer.

Did you end up getting the Garmin 220? My 405 just died so i am looking for a replacement. I read a few reviews on the 220 and it seems to have all the options i am looking for, just wondering if anyone has first hand experience with that watch.

Thanks!

I have the 220, it does what I want. I don't use it to it's capacity. Not sure what specifics you're looking for.

I'm surprised I didn't post this before. DCRainmaker has the best reviews: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/11/garm ... eview.html

I've heard that some of the initial issues have been fixed with firmware updates.

Of course since we talked about this, Garmin has now come out with the 920xt, which is basically my dream watch. Anyone want to buy a gently used 910xt? ;)
