Rune's Bruce Trail Progress Days 1 & 2
Rune's Bruce Trail Progress Days 1 & 2
Here are the first two of Ryne's reports. I will post his report each day from now on!
Ken
Another day on the trail down. Today was 86.8km - 12 hours 51 minutes. I'm told the toughest sections are behind me. I hope I have some legs left!
I hit the 100 mile mark in 34 hours 46 minutes for the trip and completed the 175km peninsula section in 36 hours 48 minutes.
Aside from a few small blisters and sore knees (from the rock descents) I feel okay. Legs are sore but not as bad as yesterday.
Another day of spectacular scenery. More great overlooks, natural bridges, sinkholes and glacier pots. Only one snake today which was good! Clark and I roused a pack of cattle and caused a stampede!
The crew have been absolutely fantastic. Sheldon's knowledge of the trail and navigation have been amazing. Paula and Mandy have both racked up huge mileage totals and Clark has surpassed his biggest months in two days!
Must go eat food now, need calories!
Happy trails!

Day one is now complete.
Distance covered 55 miles (88.5km). Started at the Northern Terminus in Tobermory at 6am with Amy Lawson. All crew today (Clark, Mandy, Sheldon, Paula and Amy) ran sections and were lifesavers. Clark hauled out of the trail to get a cheese wrap after I bonked badly needing food. The time today was 12 hours, 13 minutes.
Some amazing views of grottos, sinkholes, crevacies and Georgian Bay today. This was a very tough section with lots of wet rocks and knarly spots. I hope my legs recover for tomorrows segment!
There were some great boulderbeach sections too which reminded Clark and I of the PCT from Tuolumne Meadows to Glen Aulin, minus the mountains in the backdrop!
Saw a fox, rabbit, 4 snakes and a pheasant. The pheasant almost took me out. It charged and only my girly shreik made it avert a collision with a foot to spare. No bears but bear poop was spotted.
I will relax and enjoy the cottage tonight and soak in the bay.
This crew is amazing! Mandy's trail name has been switched from Baby to Lumberjill. A road was deemed unpassbale due to a tree blocking it. 4 crew were going to get out and help but she took it on herself!
Happy trails!

What? Is Ryne using the RA and Shinsplints method of racing? Stopping and having your picture taken during the race!
Great pictures!

Great pictures!
Actually, I'd bark at him, " out on the point, I'm taking your picture!" and he would. At the big lookout, I remember he then said, let me take yours out there, and I said no, we got to go. Probably took 10 seconds, I put my camera away on the run.
