Members Fundraising for Charity In the notoriously giving nature of Running Maniacs, a number of our members have undertaken the huge challenge of not only training for an athletic event but also raising money for charity at the same time! In an effort to support those members and their charities, we have compiled their information here. | Why he's doing it: | My wife is diabetic, and so was her mother. We have 4 boys, and because they have native background they are 3 - 5X more likely to type 2 diabetes normally. With their mother and grandmother having had it their chances have increased significantly. Also one of my best friends daughters has type 1 diabetes and has to take her blood sugar multiple times a day as well as insulin injections. In a few years she'll have outgrown his medical coverage through work and Blue Cross has denied her coverage as it is a "Pre-Existing Condition". It will cost him thousands of dollars a year to keep buying her medication. I'm hoping that the money I raise can help find a better way for her to live. |
