Re: Voyageur 50

Might be doing this race again this year. But there might be a catch. A guy I know wants to run it again this year too, but the next day is a 10 mile race that he *has* to attend. So I tossed the idea at him that we can run the 50 miler one day, drive through the night to get to Gimli for the next ...

Re: Dairy-free protein powder

Vega is nutritionally great, I however, struggle with the taste.

Hemp protein, as mentioned by eme above, is great. We also have a big tub of NitroFusion, but it has a bit too much sugar in it.

Re: Manitoba Trail Races in 2011

How hilly are the marathon and 50k routes in the May race. I am considering running one of them, but i am not sure of my hill fitness. I have not seen too many of them since moving to Winnipeg from Hamilton in August. There is about 1200' of climbing in the marathon and a bit more in the 50k. Only ...

Manitoba Trail Races in 2011

Well it's that time of year again when everyone starts thinking about what to do for the upcoming year. Not quite content to just race myself, I took on the role of race director in 2008 and now for 2011 am starting another new race. If you want to do a trail race we've got you covered from 6km to 1...

Re: vegan runners?

Been vegan for about three or four years now and have been doing ultras for five. Since going vegan I have recovered better, both from hard training and from races. I have also ran every day for almost three years, average of 5.9 miles per day.

Re: 2011 Ultra roll call

Bighorn 100 for sure, probably Voyageur 50 again, and maybe another 50 or 100 miler in the fall (October or later).

Of course, being race director for two ultras too is almost as hard as running them :-)

Re: 100km

What is your timeline for doing 100k Holly? The 12 hour race I put on in the fall could be a good one; the loops are fast, 85% smooth and have no hills bigger than you are tall.

Other than that, I loved Blackfoot, and the 100k at Kettle Morraine is a tough, but the event is super well put on.

Did you say trails? :eh: I think bingerunner mentioned to me that it goes through Assinioboine Forrest. Really?! Are you serious? That would be super... I just love running there. How much of the course is trails? :) The last time I did it (2007?) you went through a short section of trail in the fo...

Ultra crewing this June

Well the plans are already being made to take a second run at the Kettle 100 mile run ( http://www.kettle100.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). 2008 was a fantastic road trip, and like two years ago ( http://runningmania.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26728" onclick="window.ope...

Re: Ultras 2010

For me it's split into two parts, racing myself and then being race director for 6 to 8 events. Racing will be: June - Kettle 100 mile - to finish some unfinished business from 2008 July - Voyageur 50 mile August - Lean Horse 100 mile October - Surf the Murph 50 mile And for race directing, the onl...

Best running garment I own. It kept me warm through all the crap we had here last winter.

No snow in Winnipeg (nor in the forecast!) yet.

How about Arrowhead 135 as a replacement race? http://www.arrowheadultra.com -- It is at the waiting list already, but you never know. I have a friend that has done it and is geared up for 2010.

Surfing for Halloween

Surf the Murph 50 mile trail race 31 October 2009, Minneapolis, MN Preamble : I only decided to do this race about 2 or 3 weeks before; yes, that's right, I did a 50 mile race on a bit of a whim -- what can I say, it is the ultra-marathoner mentality of looking for the challenge knowing that regard...

I've picked up three or four Sugoi items at winners in the last few months, all so cheap I couldn't resist. The best deal was a soft shell jacket that I had seen for about $260 at one of the running stores that I paid less than $100 for. It kept me quite warm on some cold winter runs.

a bit late, unless you can find them locally, but the race ready shorts are perfect for hauling gels, gloves etc and you can run with double hand helds if you're concerned about the volume of fluids you're carrying. I've had great success with the Adidas Response Trail. I'm about to get a pair of the new Revolt or Riot - I just haven't decided which.

I had a pair of North Face a long time ago, they were discontinued though. I would go for them again though.

Just wrapped up my last long run of the month, starting to ramp up the miles again, did 189 miles this month, compared to 192 last year at this time. A minor foot ailment forced me to cut back a few runs, but I did 31 runs this month to keep the streaking going.

Ian, If I recall correctly you have the same MEC Breeze jacket as I do? Although I have pretty much worn mine out, I found that when layered with a reasonably lofty tech-shirt I would be as comfortable as possible in the colder spring/fall rain days.
