Still recovering from a chest cold, but I had a nice and easy 5K loop around my neighbourhood with relatively little coughing or laboured breathing. I love my new shoes, I feel like I`m running on floating pillows.

A run and beer on Wednesday night sounds outstanding. I haven`t lived in Toronto for about eight years so my ability to get out to the Beaches by 6:30 on public transit may be a tad ambitious. But it`s definitely worth a shot.

Toronto running

G`day Toronto maniacs, Perhaps this is posted in the wrong place, if so I apologize. I`m curious if there are any Toronto area runs planned for next week. I`m being flown into the Centre of the Universe for training for my new job on Tuesday morning and leave Friday morning. Obviously with the feder...

It is a frigid morning here in Fredericton. It could have been -30 (sadly, which is just around the corner) and I would have got out nice and early to try out my new shoes and Garmin. For those other 405 users, did you have trouble adjusting to the smaller digital readouts on the run? I was used to ...

Geeky Goodness

I just got a Garmin 405. (A big shoutout to my wonderful father.)) I have been testing it out tonight but I haven't had a chance to run with it yet. That is tomorrow. I finally figured out how to get it to kilometres and now discovered how to meet the virtual partner. I'm extremely stoked about this...

Thanks a lot. That does help. I always have problems linking to satellites so any improvement there will be amazing. I already have a HRM from my old Garmin, so as far as I understand I can simply buy the 405 and then use my previous strap and just turn on that function. So that eliminates the need ...

Silly question then, if you had the choice between a 205 and a 405 (price not being a factor or a very small factor) what is better and why? My (dead) Garmin is a 301, so anything is an upgrade.

So here's a question: what do you call a tempo run that lacks any tempo? I dragged my sorry butt out of bed at 5 a.m. and it took my warm-up K and the first two K to really wake up. This is what I ended up with 10K in 44:31 5:05 -- warm up 4:28 -- still asleep 4:25 -- waking up 4:13 -- finally awake...

I woke up this morning and turned my 11 tempo run into my hill run instead. I was more in a mood for hills than a tempo, go figure. So six repeats. My legs are showing very little residual impact from Sunday's 30K, which is a nice sign that I'm slowing turning the corner in my training.

I feel remarkably refreshed for running 30K this morning. I had one of the most scenic 30K runs of my life, only Banff nothwithstanding. I ran along the Northumberland Strait as the sun peaked over the ocean. Of the highlights, 4K on the Bouctouche Dune boardwalk because at one point it was ocean to...

Visiting the inlaws this weekend, so a quick 8K around Bouctouche Bay. It is a wonderful corner of New Brunswick. Today is just stretching out the legs for my LSD tomorrow. It was pretty hot by the time I got back to the house, so you cannot believe how thankful I am today was not my long run! :shoc...

I'd rather keep my run on the trails, I have a nice flat trail that I do all of my runs there. I've done ladders on a track, but I guess that concept could be taken to a trail. What is a common fartlek workout that others us?

Fartlek vs. ?

I'm following the Running Room 3:10 marathon program and it is calling for a 13K fartlek workout. I've always done speedwork and tempos, but never actual fartlek workouts. So I'm not really sure how to do one properly. Can someone give me a good suggestions on how to do a 13K fartlek workout. Howeve...

Five hill repeats this morning. It wasn't a very satisfying run. I like speedwork, but have never enjoyed hill repeats. I felt a lot better this morning than yesterday when I did a 10K tempo run. I held my desired pace for about 6K and then just fell apart. I don't know about other parts of the coun...

Up at 5 a.m. for my 26K LSD. I didn't have time to fuel up, aside from a bite of a banana. It was pretty dark on the way out so I skipped the trail and opted for the slightly hillier road route. I ran some really uneven splits, I don't believe in the first 13K I was more than 10 seconds above or bel...

Day started very busy, final day of my daughter's 4U soccer season and then a princess-themed birthday party (thankfully parents were exempted). As they slept, I went out for an easy 8K run, ave. pace 4:22. It felt good. Getting ready for my LSD tomorrow.

A slow 10K today. By the time I got out the humidity already set in, so that made breathing tough. I cannot even imagine how the Olympic marathoners are going to race under those conditions.

My wife thinks I'm nuts and will make it out to races that are convenient. She is not very impressed when I go out on runs longer than an hour. My mother was never a fan because she still clings to the belief that it is ruining my knees. My father is the only person that is genuinely interested in m...

Hi all. Just checking in. It's an offday for me, which is actually good timing considering the deluge of rain. I ran 25K yesterday, my longest run so far as I ramp up for my planned fall marathon. My training has been sporadic, but I'm getting out four to five times a week. My split times aren't whe...

Got up early today and went out for 5K. I would have gone out longer but I wasn't sure if my Garmin had enough battery to last more than 30 minutes. It was a bit chilly to start, but other than that, it was a nice run. My time on these runs hasn't dropped much in recent days but I'm feeling less fat...

dmchardie's Fredericton 10K race report

A race report? I'm not sure I remember how to do one of these, so I'll keep it simple. For various reasons, none of them really convincing, I've only run about 17 times since January and only three 10Ks. So when I got out there on Sunday, it was just to have fun and enjoy the race atmosphere. I ran ...
