Re: California International Marathon
Any day you can run a marathon is a good day, and to do it in those conditions with that travel itinerary is even better. Anyone else do this one? Yep: 2010 (race report: http://www.runningmania.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=40652 ) That's one hell of a time you ran. You gave it a speed rating....

California International Marathon
Hi All, This had apocalyptic weather. The video I put together tells it best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56j5buFQzeM&list=PLF35F7ACB6146641A&index=13 . Anyone else do this one? For those of a more literary persuasion: http://atouchoftheruns.blogspot.ca/2012/12/california-international-ma...

I did the 5k, not too fond of the 10k course. Well done on the PB!

Thanks, hope vid was enjoyable! It combines running with my other more obscure hobby of collecting music from mainland China.

Headcam vid link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aekCNrQck4&feature=youtu.be A fun race a 6pm on New Year's Eve, with a free jacket thrown in! It's got a start/ finish line and a clock, though there's no chip-timing or official online results afterwards. As if that stops me from getting compet...

Re: NYC Marathon - best tour company
Thanks all. I wonder if there's a way of getting around having to go through the tour company for a spectator, my wife, by booking the same hotel separately? I'll just crunch some numbers.

Brilliant, thanks. I looked at the running room package last week - didn't seem to include flights.

Re: Calgary & area cross country races?
5 Peaks doesn't run in the winter. Calgary Roadrunners put on a great series of cross country races. They're pretty low-key but they're very well run club races. Seven bucks if you're a CRR member, bring a dessert. http://www.calgaryroadrunners.com/xcsched.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);retur...

Re: Calgary & area cross country races?
The most obvious suggestion would be the 5 Peaks series ( http://www.5peaks.com/aboutus.asp ). If you're looking for something longer or shorter, more technical or faster, more scenic or more convenient, let me know and I'll see if I can refine the recommendations. Thanks Ian - what about December ...

NYC Marathon - best tour company
Hi All,
Assuming I don't get lucky in the entry lottery, what is the best "official tour provider" to go with in terms of value for money? I really want to run it after seeing the TV show

Re: Does a PB count if race run at longer distance?
I love a good debate. I think I'll call it unofficial. I grew up in the UK, and never heard of a PR until I started reading runners world. I used to joke with friends about setting a "(personal) world record" though. I was 20 seconds inside my official 5k PB, which I set in July this year....

Re: Does a PB count if race run at longer distance?
Just wondering what official organizations do with something like this? I ran a 5 mile race recently, and when my garmin said I'd done 5k, the time was under my PB for a 5k race. Does it count? Personally I always call that an unofficial PB and then sign up for the next race at that distance that i...

Movei was great, got a great shot of my wife directing you, then going up the hill with the girls chearing with noise makers, but then you cut out at the bathrooms at the top of the hill where I was... :( :( and cut in again at the bottom of the hill turning towards the water station.. Oh well, no ...

Cool idea for a video!! It made me bit motion sick though, so couldn't watch it all :( You were initially going to do the full, right? Or was the half your plan all along? You're right - it was my 2nd 5k, with the 1st last year and poorly done. This'll be my 6th half and my first ever race was a half.

Re: Half PB of 1:29 - is 1:26:30 possible?
I find that I can go for a long time at over 4:00/km pace, but anything under that is tough - I did a 5k in early July in a breathless 19:48. That one confuses me. Usually "young guys" (i.e., <40, sorry Michael  ) in their first couple of years of racing fall off gradually from 5 to...

Re: Half PB of 1:29 - is 1:26:30 possible?
Thanks to all. I have a friend who is more into full marathons and has been running since 2006 (I started in 2009), and his PB which he didn't think I'd ever get near is 1:26:40. I find that I can go for a long time at over 4:00/km pace, but anything under that is tough - I did a 5k in early July in...
