Re: Timing of a fall winter marathon
update: I completed the Hamilton full in 4:04:56! I took 10 minutes off my time I don't think I would have pulled that off in Detroit with the humidity. I think I had a good taper and proper nutrition, temps etc.........

Re: Timing of a fall winter marathon
Thanks for you advice. I will take it easy with slow running and my goal now is just to finish Hamilton. I did have a goal of 4 hours but at this point I don't care. I found the half difficult yesterday. It was humid, stomach was off and I think stress and later start time messed me up :( My trainin...

Timing of a fall winter marathon
What a weekend! I was supposed to run the Detroit Full. We headed to the start line 1.5 hour before the race. Got caught in traffic that wasn't moving at all. I turned on a side street and parked the car. I realized then that I my bib must have been at the hotel. We searched the whole car and I pani...

Re: Help me get faster with full marathon :)
Thanks! My LSD run is a little slower for the first half. I end up talking to my running partner for the first half. The second half we listen to music and pick up the pace. My last training run was 38k. I know some say not to run that high but I did this for my last marathon. I didn't struggle at a...

Help me get faster with full marathon :)
I am training for my second marathon (Detroit this October) I just set a personal best for the half marathon (1:53) and am very happy with my finish time. I ran my first full marathon last spring. My goal was just to finish and I only did hill training as speed work. I finished in 4:14. This summer ...

Ottawa Marathon - too hot???
I'm going to start training for my first marathon. I'm interested in the Ottawa Marathon. The course looks scenic and it would be a nice family get away. Has anyone ran this race? Is it too hot??

Re: training for my first full marathon
thanks for the info! I will check out hal higdon. I don't think I will finish this race too fast. My first half marathon was done in a good time - I was able to push with high winds. I ran 3 more half marathons and lost at the mental struggle. not sure what happened but finished in over 2 hours. My ...

I am so excited to be training for my first full marathon. I promised myself I would do this before I turn 40 (on Dec 13). I have ran about 4 half marathons. My goal for this full would be to complete the race injury free. I have no time goal. I'm thinking of doing the Niagara Falls International Ma...

Re: darn heel injury
I have been icing my foot when sore. It is NOT sore today (first thing in morning). I also stretch my calf muscles really good after cycling. I was also told to move the foot in circles in the morning before getting out of bed. My hardwood floors really irritate the foot after a long day. I have bee...

I miss running soooooooooo much. I am now starting to go through the mental withdrawal. My last run and race was the Mississauga Half in May. I was visiting my PT and she has me doing clam shells to strengthen my glutes/hip....it is so obvious that this area is weak. She gave me the go ahead to star...

PF recovery question
I have taken off almost 3 full weeks due to plantar fascitis. The pain was in my heel and not the arch. The pain in my heel is now gone. The pain in my arch has just begun. It is just a dull/mild ache. I almost think it would go away with some icing. I was doing the stair stepper and cycling classes...

Re: Plantar Fascitis Help
Thanks for all your wonderful advice. I have taken off 10 days. I have NO heel pain. I plan on taking off 4 weeks in total before even attempting a run. I thought I would go nuts but I am enjoying the break. I feel more rested. I am doing the stair climber and cycling classes. I plan on doing a lane...

Plantar Fascitis Help
I think I have been suffering from plantar fascitis for about 6 months. If I take off one week the pain is completely gone until I go for a run. I have decided to let this injury heal so I can start fresh. I would say the pain is mild after a slow/short distance run. The pain is worse after a long r...

My husband and I also get negative responses on running. My husband says people do not want to hear when you are doing well. I also get "How do you run with three kids?".....It's easy I just make the time. How do people make time to watch tv or go shopping? I also hate comments like you don't need t...

ran mississauga half - what happened to my IT band injury??
I experienced IT band tightness and knee pain about 3-4 weeks ago on my long run. I have been taking it easy. I went out last week for a easy 6k with no pain. I tried another 6k before the race and pushed my pace. I had slight pain after that run - not during. so I wasn't sure if I should do the Mis...
