Re: Boston Monday

Thanks so much for the tracking and support everyone! This day was a decade or so in the making and it totally lived up to my expectations! Will come back with a race report soon. :)

Re: scrumhalfgirl in Canadian Running mag :)

Thanks guys! I missed this when it first came out, can't believe no one posted it here. :) http://runningmagazine.ca/stories-run-commute-ran-pregnancy-now-run-work-better-mom-get-time/ I think it might have been linked to on FB at the time. The author should have mentioned that not only is she train...

Re: Future of RM

Look at me logging in twice in one week! (largely because I'm working from home right now!) Agree that using SM would still need to drive traffic here to something. What I loved about RM back in the day was that is was big enough to have a fairly regular stream of new content but small enough that y...

Re: Future of RM

I'm guilty of not getting on here very frequently any more, and honestly it's because I'm rarely on a desktop other than at work, and I find forums clunky on mobile (even with an app). The only reason I check in to see how old friends are doing - both in training and in life - though I do keep up wi...

Re: Where are people buying discount shoes these days?

I am finding it harder and harder to find shoes online at a great discount because many many brands won't ship from the US which used to be my go-to For Canadian suppliers, I regularly check Sporting Life online, Sports4 online (LRS in Ottawa) and Running Free online. I've gotten some decent deals o...

Re: New Marathon...Fast Course

I've been following this one as the course is not far from our family cottage (well, the actual start is a ways away, but the path system is near-ish). I've biked some of the course and it's beautiful!

Re: Size of your running shoes

I've got a wide wedge shaped foot so I have to try on literally every pair of shoes I buy to see if they'll work. There seems to be no rhyme or reason with respect to what size I'll need in any type of shoe, except that it usually ranges between 9 and 10.5 and regular width to EE, LOL. I have a wed...

I haven't read the book but I HATED the interview! I find that intermittent fasting stuff to be crap and I basically she was promoting totally unhealthy/abnormal eating patterns. I usually like the AMR interviews but was disappointed with this one.

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I started at 4 months with C and 2 months with F - I used the car seat adapter and took it pretty easy on curbs. I have super smooth paved paths to run on though so I wasn't going up and down over sidewalks. I think the locked vs unlocked is a personal preference. I much prefer unlocked and use that...

Re: Race Trends

I think what's great about running is that we can all come to it for different reasons and with different perspectives and goals, and those can change over time. With the popularity of running now, there can be events that cater to different groups and that's ok! When I first started running, I had ...

Re: Walking ... how do you keep from boredom

Podcasts are key for me - there are so many good ones out there now! I have ones I save just for working out as extra motivation. Can you walk to "run" errands? Sometimes having a destination makes the walk more enjoyable.

2 x 7.5 km run commute - Boston training is moving along. I also joined the gym in my new work building so today I went to a strength training class for the first time.

Re: Run Fast Saturday

I ran the 9runrun half this morning and finished up with a 6.5 minute PB! I was a bit worried as I was fighting off a bit of a bug the last couple of days, but I guess all of that running in the hot summer paid off. It was a gorgeous morning and I felt pretty good the whole run. My legs started fad...

Re: Who's doing the Waterfront Marathon Sunday?

Belated reply but I did the full. The weather wasn't as terrible as it could have been, but it was certainly far from ideal. The short downpour at the start soaked my shoes which did a number on my feet (and made for some very slippery spots along the course with all the road painting and streetcar ...

Re: Timing of a fall winter marathon

Oh man, that is so disappointing! What a bummer! I think turning around and doing Hamilton in 3 weeks is a good plan. I'm not sure how much faster your half was than your regular training runs but I'd recommend taking maybe today and tomorrow off, then picking back up a bit and doing a long run this...

Marathon Recovery Monday

Ran the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon yesterday - heading down stairs is a bit tricky but my legs feel surprisingly good. The rough part is that I got sick on Saturday night before the race and I have now totally lost my voice! Lots of whispering for me today. Race was a tough one, but I'm ...

Re: Trail running Sunday

Ran the Scotia half this morning. My time of 2:03:50 does not reflect the strength of my run, but it does reflect my drastically reduced training levels. Still, I felt like it was a great race, and very much in line with what I could have expected. I felt great the entire time, and never stopped ru...

Re: Help me get faster with full marathon :)

Your times line up almost perfectly with where I was when I ran my first half (1:53) and full (4:15) back in 2007. Rather than focusing on increasing your longest run, I recommend increasing your weekly mileage though those shorter runs gradually. With time, a stronger base will help you run faster.
