Re: Running and Weight Loss (Nancy Clarke)
The only time I lost weight/changed body composition due to exercise changes was after ironman (stayed the same shape throughout ironman training). My volume of training went down to 45 - 60 minutes/day, and incorporated resistence training. When I trained for IM and long distance running I gave mys...

Re: Who thinks Lance could win at Kona?
I think the fact that Lance did "good" makes it even more heart breaking that he was lying and cheating behind it. If he were the average pro-cyclist who wasn't so "inspirational" and wasn't putting his name behind research involving a very emotional and well known disease this w...

Re: Sylvan Half IM - a little story
yeah it's pretty neat eh? Never dreamed I would see so much change come from sport! I am now working for a housing first project and a co-worker and I are planning a running program out of the community drop in centre. We're trying to figure out clothing, snacks, incentives etc... but it should be a...

Re: Sylvan Half IM - a little story
B graduated drug court. I went out to dinner with him and his lawyer the weekend before the graduation ceremony. He's an apprentice tradesperson, registered for his next half IM (July 1 - 2012) and saving to buy the bike of his dreams. We might even take a road trip in August to sign him up for IMC ...

Someone threw fireworks infront of John and I when we were walking on Saturday night. It really freaked me out. I can't imagine being on a bike and having to contend with that ****.

Re: Sylvan Half IM - a little story
Thanks guys. It was all his work! He sent me a text yesterday: I couldn't have done it without you, thank you for an amazing gift and an amazing day. A day I will never forget. Neato eh? The other neat thing is he is no longer stealing to support his habit. Stories like these are few and far between...

Sylvan Half IM - a little story
I work for the local drug court program. B has been in the program for about 6 months. He is a recovering meth addict and when he came to us he was tired and had gained the traditional "recovery weight". He became inspired to run and started a running program. We got him some new shoes whe...

wetsuit - help
A while back (years ago?) I shipped a wetsuit out to a maniac in need; I am now working with a client contemplating his first half IM in a couple weeks and I'd like to pass the same wetsuit on. I know its a shot in the dark since I can't recall who I shipped it to (out east) but can you help if you ...

Re: Indoor versus outdoor
I did quite a bit of my long rides for IM training indoors because of parenting. I think if your bike handling skills are ok and you know what it's like to ride in the wind, rain, and with traffic it is a good substitute. I would typically give it a 1:1 ratio. Because if I was planning to ride outdo...
