Re: Season is Starting
I've already got a couple of races under the belt this spring. Spruce Woods Ultra is this weekend, and I'm pacing a friend. Saw you ran 100 in April, congrats...is there a race report?? Yep, it's on my blog: http://dalesblogaboutnothing.blogspot.com/2016/04/2016-zumbro-100.html The pacing went well...

Trail races are never measured correctly.

If you're going to run 150k, just do the extra 10k and call it a 100 miler.

Re: Endurance advice
My advice is to get a heart rate monitor. Figure out what your resting and maximum heart rates are (by doing an exhaustion test, rather than 220-age) and determine your zones from there. You may find that you've been running too fast on all your runs (which sabotages your training). But on the other...

Lance's First Ultra
So, Lance Armstrong raced his first ultra this last weekend. Scott Dunlap gives a recap in this blog post: http://www.atrailrunnersblog.com/2016/03/good-times-at-marin-ultra-challenge-50k.html My favourite part: 4:19?!? Who does that in their first hilly trail ultra? A guy who dopes, that's who.

I've always wanted a coach. Where you find one? Running Room?
I think it really depends upon your goals. I found mine on http://www.run100s.com/ but you might be looking for something different.

Ran 4 miles with the WH3. Was haring, and set a slightly longer trail than normal. I might have forgotten to set a few marks. Whoops!

Re: Superior 100
Thanks all! Great race report, Dale! Congrats on your buckle! You ran it well from the sounds of it, minus the unplanned unsupervised snooze. Good job and good luck on your quest for more buckles. What's next on your hit list? I regret nothing with the unsupervised snooze. It was probably the best t...

Re: Cross training
Crosstraining is supposed to prevent injury by engaging in cardio exercise using different muscles than normal. It probably works. I've never done it. I just run lots and stop/slow down when I feel an injury coming on.

Re: You daily running route
I mostly run during my lunch hour from work. I have a few different routes that I can choose from, and sometimes I just wing it and explore a direction or street I've never run before. It really all depends upon the goal of my run: If it's an easy run, then I'm more likely to explore since getting l...

Re: Why carbo-loading doesn't work and what to do instead
I'm not under the impression that carb-loading is going to help me. But it's yummy and gives me an excuse to pig out on pasta, so that's good enough. :) I'm definitely under the impression that *anything*-loading is going to help me before an ultra. Sure beats heading into a race fasted, that's for...

Re: How Realistic is a Marathon Negative Split?
I've got a sample size of 1, and it was a trail race. And it was 50k, so not exactly a marathon (but close enough)... My 50k PB had even splits between the first half and second half (out & back race course). I definitely believe in the negative split. At the very least, it feels great to be spe...
