Dang. That Gordini balaclava looks exactly what I need! I have the CTR Mistral, and the problem with it is that it has frosts up when you cover your mouth & nose so that you can't breathe.

Re: Hoka Shoes
I have two pairs of Hokas: A pair of Mafates, and a pair of Rapa Nuis. I'm ok with them both, but I find that the ankle cutout isn't low enough and it sometimes rubs. As with everything: moderation is key. I don't run exclusively in Hokas, and simply use them in a rotation. I figure a constant chang...

Soooooooo.... any decisions?
I went with Karl Meltzer. Seems down to earth. This Saturday is my first race under his guidance, so we'll see how things go.

Re: New to Ultra Running
Well after running numerous half marathons and full marathons I have decided to make the jump to a 50K ultra marathon. I will be running the Lost Soul Ultra marathon in Lethbridge in September. Any advice for a new to ultra runner? Any advice from anyone who has run the Lost Souls. Thanks for any h...

Ran my long run last Saturday with another Winnipegger who completed one loop of the Barkley before he pulled the plug. His words: 20k of vert was more than enough. I would tend to agree.

It's 9pm here, and no Monday thread?
Ran an unbelievably cold 6 miles this morning. Maybe some thermal layers would have been a good idea.

Re: Sole Treadmills
I have an F65. It's been beaten and pounded, used and abused. It even took a pretty nasty static shock and kept on ticking (more or less, the built-in fans no longer work and the buttons on the arm rests no longer work). Never had any run-ins with technical service, so I can't comment there. That be...

Can somebody lend me $15k so I can get one? I'll pay you back in my marathon winnings.

Re: Debunking the 1% incline myth and other treadmill myths
Just try running on a woodway with slats instead of a sliding belt... the shock absorption ruins pushing off ability so I think perceived exertion is higher than outside. I've come to the following ratios in my head of progressive intensity setting the TM to = what it works out to outdoors/feels li...

6 k and change in the park for me. Chilly, but not cold enough to freeze my d***, if I had one.
It froze. It seems I forgot how much ventilation my tights have in the crotch.

Think of it this way... When you run, you're actually standing still and it's everything else that moves around you. All depends upon frame of reference.

Re: Headlamp/Lighting
I can't say enough about the Petzl Myo RXP. Half the price of the Nao, and has a diffuser. The diffuser is the coolest option out there, as it spreads the light around so that you're not running in a "tunnel". You can also program the headlamp to different power levels, so you can fine-tun...

I visited Vancouver a few years ago, and didn't think twice about running the interior trails. But I'm a guy, and I was pretty ignorant about anybody living in there.
There were a lot of people running along the sea wall in the morning. And a few skinny-dippers.

Funny you mention Lisa Smith-Bachen. She's one of the two. The other is Karl Meltzer. I thought Lisa's price was the same as Karl's ($200/month). Maybe she had a price increase since I started looking around?

Good question. Not too many ultra coaches in the area. Dwayne_runs_far is about the only one, and I don't think he does it any more. And I don't think it would be a good idea to have a friend as a coach. I want an ****.

Re: Online coach
Thanks rungeek! Now, as for the price... Was it worth it, and would you have been able to do it without the coach?
If I do pursue an online coach, I've narrowed it down to two online coaches, both with extensive (and impressive) resumes. And both pretty pricey.
