2008 December & Year-end Totals

Postby La » Tue Dec 30, 2008 1:17 pm

I didn't see this thread started yet, so I thought I would since I'm done my running for the month/year now.

I don't think I logged everything on itsmyrun.com in 2008 (April only shows 1 run, and I'm sure I ran more than that!), but I did log a lot, and was quite good in the last two months of logging. Here are my totals:

December:
12 runs
120kms
12hrs, 24mins
Ave pace: 6:11/km

2008:
85 runs
856km
86hrs, 17mins
Ave pace: 6:02/km

Hey, Robbie, it would be cool if there was a way to track triathlon races on itsmyrun differently than running races so that it only includes your running time in your run totals.

Thanks as always to Robbie-T for itsmyrun.

2009 goals:

- use running as a way to get my weight down below 160 pounds, and keep it below 160 pounds for the rest of my life!

- training run of 126.6k in a 24 hour period, at least once!

- training runs of 42.2k seven days in a row, at some point.

- run more than 5000k in the calendar year

- run 10 official marathons

- run 4 official marathons in 4 different states within 9 days - likely to occur as follows: Charlottesville 4/18/08, Boston 4/20/08, Louisville 04/25/08, Toledo 04/26/08

- use my status as a marathon-running transsexual as a way to promote positive education, awareness, and acceptance among society regarding transsexualism.

...you'll notice no time-oriented goals here. As i transition from male to female, my strength speed and endurance has taken a hit, and will continue to fall as i get deeper into estrogen therapy; therefore, it is essentially impossible to gain a clear understanding of time expectations. once i have fully transitioned, i will be able to start setting time goals again..

Interesting year for the tortoise in 2008. I had some injuries, a serious lung infection that wiped out running for the months of April and May. So final totals for 2008 are as follows:

Running ( mostly outdoors but some dreadmill work ) 2685 kms

Walking ( 6o-40 split outdoors vs dreadmill ) 1475 kms

Cycling ( stationary bike only ) 1070 kms.

These totals include the distances for the following events:

Jan 01 - Resolution Run 10 km
12 - Disney World Half Marathon
13 - Disney World Marathon
Feb 16 - Myrtle Beach 24 km ( Retired from Marathon due to quad injury )
Mar 30 - Around the Bay 30 km
Jun 21 - Anchorage, Alaska Half Marathon
Sep 14 - Erie Marathon
Sep 21 - Canadian Army Half Marathon
Oct 04 - RunForTheToad 25 km
Oct 09 - Octoberfest 10 km
Nov 02 - Hamilton Marathon
Dec 14 - Egg Nog Jog 10.8 km
Dec 26 - Hamilton Boxing Day 10 Miler

As I indicated, it certainly was an intriquing year for running.

Good luck to everyone for 2009. ( Including me!! )

These are approximate as I didn't keep a detailed log until mid March.

Run: 1,127km
Bike: 4,436km
Swim: 94,217m

I didn't do anything at all from October 24 to November 24 due to injury and I haven't been near the water since September 14, yikes!

12 of them were official races (11 marys and one ultra) and 3 more were bizarre 42K "shallonges" with a running buddy: December's "beer marathon", July's "106 laps around the track marathon", and April's "blizzard marathon"... we even made bibs 8) . Coming soon: the "treadmill marathon" and the "stupid 2K hill loop 21 times to get us ready for Boston marathon".

Overall a pretty good year. Could have been better (although when can you not say that), but my achilles kept me sidelined a couple of times (see if you can guess when by looking at the monthly totals....)

Dec: 450.6k; 26 runs
Nov: 371.7k; 22 runs
Oct: 260.4k; 23 runs
Sept: 418.1k; 25 runs
Aug: 245.1k; 19 runs
Jul: 471.1k; 29 runs
Jun: 341.8k; 20 runs
May: 404.4k; 29 runs
Apr: 295.0k; 25 runs
Mar: 182.6k; 18 runs
Feb: 121.5k; 10 runs
Jan: 374.4k; 26 runs

2008 total: 3936.7k; 272 runs

That compares to 3253.8k in 277 runs last year, meaning my mileage per run went up about about 23%. My pace dropped too. I don't have last year's average pace, but this year I averaged 4:37/km.

Race-wise, also a pretty good year.

- 1st Marathon (PEC - October) - by definition a PR, and also a time (and a race) I was quite happy with.

- 10k PR (HBC Run for Canada - July). Although that time looks set to fall next time I race one of those.

- 1/2 Marathon race win (Hartwell Challenge - April) - slowest winning time in the history of the race!!!

Plus, a mis-measured 10k, (10.828k it turns out) just coming off an injury, where I got really disheartened passing the second "1k to go!" sign (Kumagaya Japan- Mar)

And my first X/C race in over 20 years at Sunnybrook Park in November, which was more for fun than anything else.

And to top it all off, I found this online community of great people with a similar obsession.

Here's to a great 2009!

December turned out to be lower than expected because of this small injury, but I'm ending on the upswing.

December: 195K plus about 3 hours of cross-training
Total runs: 22 Average pace: 6:15/km (mostly easy runs, some very slow on the icy roads, only three tempo runs)

Year end for 2008: 2650K
