That article makes me so happy that 80-90% or more of the food that I buy for my family is whole foods. I can't actually remember the last time I've had "yellow death" (kD) in my cupboard.

I love KD.

I'll just append this to the lengthy (and ever changing) list of "things that people say will kill me".

(Water is on that list, btw.)

Toxicity is dose-related.

Everything will kill you eventually.

Yes, I know that's your point. :)

my family knows me for being the one who always says, "gotta die of something!" ;)

What's the quote that goes something along the lines of ... "I'll laugh at the health nut that lies in the hospital dying of nothing." I definitely don't remember exactly how it goes!

Yes, my Father was witty the same way. Towards the end he said "if I knew I was going to live this long I'd have taken better care of myself".

He was a funny guy: wish his Grandchildren had a chance to know him.

If it is the same article I saw in a tweet the other day I have to say this sort of stuff drives me crazy.

Bromine can be used to disinfect water which is a good thing if cholera is not your gig.
Arsenic can be used in certain forms and certain doses that can put leukemia patients into remission.

As JWolf says it is dose and concentration dependant.

Recently I saw my Aunt whom I haven't seen for forever. We got on the topic of my DH's crohn's. Right away she went off about Monsanto and GMO's and how "don't you agree they are trying to kill us.."

Um. No. I don't agree. Funny enough when I tried to tell her my opinion, I was summarily cut off and ended up receiving FB messages about it. Seriously?

Don't dare question GMOs! GMO = Monsanto = evil and any thought that deviates from that is anathema. ;)

I feel the same way. I don't believe that there's some grand government conspiracy meant to prop up Monsanto and other large corporations at the expense of our health. Most of those types of posts are just fear mongering.

That said, if you're going to eat processed crap, you have to accept that it's more than just "evil chemicals" in there that's not very good for you.

Not all conspiracies have to be cloaked in secrecy. You can do them right out in the open. (That's a link to The Guardian, not somebody's Facebook profile.)

I can openly donate to a US Senator and that Senator can openly acknowledge that I have co-written a piece of legislation that exempts me from the same federal environmental and consumer protection safeguards that apply to pretty much every other industry.

I didn't realize this was the same "Eight Toxic Food" garbage from Buzzfeed.

Here's a good answer to that:

:D

Thanks for the link. Even without knowing much about chemistry, the wording and tone of the original article/post sent up red flags for me that it was sensationalist fear-mongering at its best. ;)
