Funny Story - Toronto Scotiabank Pace Bunny...

Postby Irongirl » Sat Jul 12, 2014 4:39 pm

So, I was undecided on what to do about a race in the fall....not sure if I actually wanted "race" anything, but, I knew I wanted to train for something - I've enjoyed the marathon training.

I got in touch with canalrunner to get him to put me in touch with the pace bunny organizer for Scotiabank Toronto. I'm not 100% sure I'll be back in town for the Army Run, so, I wasn't going to commit to that, but, I thought the half at the Toronto weekend would be good.

Turns out the only spot left when I contacted the pace bunny organizer was the 4:55 marathon. Huh. Did I want to actually train for another marathon? I liked the schedule, I liked the group - why not?! I had just run a 4:51 in Ottawa, with lots left in the tank (I paced a friend - otherwise, another friend and I would have been easily under 4:45, we think......)

So, I filled out the application and waited.......after not hearing back for a bit - I got in touch with the pacer organizer.

Turns out someone "more qualified" also applied and was chosen.

I just checked out the website to see if the pace bunny was announced.

I was happy to see this:

Guiding marathoners to a PB or first time finish is the best way I can think of to 'pay it forward'. SWTM will be my 10th marathon, and my third pacing assignment. Highlights of my running career are qualifying for, and running, Boston as well as New York and Chicago. I'm also a veteran coach of several Running Room clinics. I've participated in either the STWM full or half for the past 6 years.

If I'm going to be "out-qualified" by someone, I'm happy it's a maniac! :)

I'm going to continue training the marathon distance though, and, when the fall comes, I'll make a decision about what to do. :)

Oops! I actually didn't realize someone else had applied! Is there any other fall marathon that you might be able to pace?

Hmmm. Hamilton? Niagara?

I think you were both asking about the same time. Ed Mark at Running Room was looking for pacers for both the half and the full at Niagara Falls.

Congratulations Lisa :D
